October 9, 2019

The Topeka Pilots of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender Jakub Dobes has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Ohio State University in the B1G.
Dobes, 19, is in his first full season of playing in the NAHL for the Pilots. The 6’4/200 lbs. native of Vitkovice, Czech Republic, has been one of the top goalies in the NAHL so far this season, compiling a 5-2-0 record to go along with a 1.56 goals against average and a .945 save percentage and two shutouts. His five wins and two shutouts are currently tied for the NAHL lead.
Dobes was one of 16 players with NAHL ties recently named to National Hockey League (NHL) Central Scouting’s ‘Prospects to Watch’ list for 2020 draft-eligible players.
He was also named the NAHL’s South Division Star of the Week this past week as he picked up two wins in two starts, allowing just a single goal on 72 shots in the process.
“Jakub is a special talent. It is great for him to get the attention and recognition for his efforts. We are extremely excited for him to attend The Ohio State University and further his hockey career. Jakub’s character and work ethic will continue to push him to new heights,” said Pilots head coach Simon Watson. “His poise and patience in high-pressure situations has helped our team succeed in close hockey games. Jakub has an extremely bright future, and we couldn’t be happier for his success.”
Dobes becomes the first Pilots player this season to make an NCAA Division 1 commitment.
