Brown Bears, Generals win on Thursday

Hugo Haas made 40 saves in a 3-2 win on Thursday.
Kenai River 5 @ Chippewa 3 – The Kenai River Brown Bears moved their record to 2-0 with their second win in as many weeks in Chippewa Falls against the Steel. The Brown Bears were bolstered by a three-goal 2nd period, which included two goals from Brandon Lajoie and another from Max Helgeson to take a 3-0 lead. The Steel tried to make a game of things in the 3rd period, which included goals from Ryan Waltman and Grisha Gotovets to make it a 3-2 game. However, two more goals from Adam Szubert and Laudon Poellinger secured the win for the Brown Bears. Spencer Oyler had the other goal for the Steel. Brown Bears goalie Luke Pavicich made 31 saves in the win, while Grant Boldt made 19 saves in the loss.
Maine 2 @ Northeast 3 – The Generals never trailed and scored in the game’s final minute to edge the 1st place Maine Nordiques on Thursday, 3-2. After a scoreless 1st period, the Generals took a 1-0 lead thanks to Zach Lindewirth’s second goal of the season. The Nordiques tied the game at 1-1 later in the period with a goal from Tristan Fasig. In the 3rd period, the Generals regained their one-goal edge on a goal from Alexander Tertyshny, his first of the season. Midway through the period, the Nordiques had another as answer as Isaiah Fox scored on the power play to make it 2-2. With just :20 seconds left in regulation, Kyle Schroeder netted the game-winner. Tertyshny ended up with a goal and two assists and Hugo Haas made 40 saves in the win. Avery Sturtz made 33 saves in the losing effort for the Nordiques.
