Ice Dogs and Steel pick up wins on Thursday

Steel goalie Berk Berkeliev made 27 saves in a 3-2 win on Thursday.
MN Magicians 2 @ Fairbanks 6 – Ice Dogs forward Jake Hale scored twice as Fairbanks built a big and early lead in a 6-2 win over the Magicians. The Ice Dogs got off to a big star with three goals in the 1st period, including one from Hale and others from Bret Link and Austin Becker. The lead swelled to 5-0 in the 2nd period as Laker Aldridge and Tyler Herzberg scored. The Magicians tried to make a game of things with back-to-back goals from Brett Oberle and Simon Falk, but a late empty-net goal from Hale secured the 6-2 win. Ice Dogs goalie Kayden Hargraves made 30 saves in the win, while Andy Beran took the loss with 8 saves on 11 shots. Darius Bell would also appear in the game, stopping 17 of 19 shots.
Chippewa 3 @ Kenai River 2 – Ryan Waltman had a goal and assist and Berk Berkeliev made 27 saves to lead the Steel to a 3-2 road win over the Brown Bears on Thursday. After a scoreless 1st period, the Steel took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Waltman and Ethan Janda, while Lucas Wahlin scored for Kenai River. In the 3rd period, the Steel got the eventual game-winning goal from Conor Ronayne midway through the frame. Wahlin scored again for the Brown Bears later in the period, but they could not find the equalizer. Kenai River goalie Luke Pavicich made 27 saves in the loss.
