Aberdeen forward Gaffney makes NCAA DI commitment

The Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward Kyle Gaffney has committed to play NCAA Division I Hockey for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in the fall of 2022.
Gaffney, 19, is in his first season of playing junior hockey in the NAHL with the Wings. The 6’0/165 lbs. native of Plymouth, MI has one goal and 12 assists for 13 points and is a +14 plus minus in 32 games played so far this season.
The previous two seasons Gaffney played for Detroit Catholic Central in Michigan, playing in 48 games and recording 26 goals and 49 assists. During that time he also played in NAPHL showcase tournaments with MDHL 18U AAA (Michigan Development High School). Gaffney added 8 goals and 8 assists in 8 games played.
He was a member of the 2018-19 USHS Michigan State Championship Team and during the 2019-20 season was named USHS Michigan All State Division I First Team.
“Kyle is an extremely smart hockey player that thrives at making plays. Throughout his career, he has consistently been able to show up at big times. This season has been no different, and he has become a big piece of the Aberdeen Wings,” said Wings Head Coach & GM Scott Langer.

Gaffney will join former Wings players; Riley Murphy, Antonio Di Paolo, Jakob Breault and current Wings Natan Vertes, Payton Matsui & Cade Neilson in Alaska fall of 2022.
