NAHL Weekend Preview

It is the last weekend in October in the NAHL and 23 games are on the schedule for Friday and Saturday as the regular season is now a quarter over.
It was another banner week for the league, which saw six more players make NCAA Division I commitments, bringing the 2021-22 season total to 112 players who have committed to play NCAA Division I hockey.
One of the things the NAHL does better than any other junior league is seeing their players earn an NCAA opportunity while playing and being showcased in the NAHL. During the 2020-21 season, a record number of 395 NAHL players made NCAA commitments, with 293 of those (74%) being a record number of NCAA Division I commitments.
This weekend in the Central Division, the red-hot Minot Minotauros, who have won three straight, are in St. Cloud to take on the Norsemen with the two teams separated by a single point in the standings. The Austin Bruins, who are tied for 1st place, look to get back on track with a tough weekend series in Aberdeen against the Wings, who are just four points back. Both Bismarck and North Iowa are idle.
In the East, the New Jersey Titans are riding their offense and a 5-0-1 streak in their last six games up the standings and face a tough two-game series in Johnstown. The 1st place Maryland Black Bears are on the road in Danbury, and the Maine Nordiques look to snap a four-game losing streak as they host the Jamestown Rebels. The Northeast Generals are idle.
In the Midwest, the 1st place Springfield Jr. Blues return home to host the Minnesota Wilderness, who are just three points back in 4th place. The Chippewa Steel, who are fresh off a 5-3 come-from-behind win on Thursday, host the Minnesota Magicians for a single game on Saturday with the two teams separated by just a point in the standings. In Alaska, the Kenai River Brown Bears will host the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, while the Anchorage Wolverines host the Janesville Jets.
In the South, things are much tighter at the top as Lone Star beat Odessa in a shootout on Friday with the two teams slated to play two more games this weekend. A big series goes down in New Mexico as the 3rd place Ice Wolves host the 4th place Wichita Falls Warriors, with the Warriors just two points behind in the standings. The final series as the Corpus Christi IceRays back at home, looking to snap a six-game slide against the Shreveport Mudbugs. Amarillo and El Paso are idle.
