NAHL Weekend Preview

Fresh of the announcement of the updated rosters and schedule for the 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, the NAHL gets back into action this weekend with 27 games on the schedule from Friday through Sunday as the month of January comes to a close.
The NAHL has had a great run of NCAA commitments in recent weeks, including five more this past week, bringing the current season total to 167 NCAA Division I commitments.
With the schedule over halfway done and the USA Hockey trade deadline looming in just over a week, the time is now for teams to make a move in the standings.
The 2022 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament is also just over a week away and will take place from February 7-8 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. The UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex is the practice home to the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
In the Central Division, the red-hot St. Cloud Norsemen have won four in a row and for the second straight weekend, will face the Minot Minotauros with the two teams separated by two points in the standings. There is a big series in Aberdeen as North Iowa pays a visit with the two teams tied in points for the 4th and final playoff spot. The final series has the 1st place Austin Bruins in Bismarck to take on the Bobcats.
In the East, it’s a battle of 2nd and 3rd place as Maryland hosts Johnstown this weekend. The Northeast Generals look to hold onto 4th place as they host Danbury on Saturday and Sunday. The Jamestown Rebels are hot on the heels of Northeast for the final playoff spot as they host Maine this weekend.
In the Midwest, the hottest team in the NAHL, the Springfield Jr. Blues, put their seven-game winning streak on the line on Friday at the Magicians after winning in a shootout on Thursday, 4-3. The Minnesota Wilderness put their four-game winning streak on the line in a home-and-home series with the Chippewa Steel. Janesville looks to climb the standings into a playoff spot with two games in Anchorage on Friday and Sunday. The final series as rivals Kenai River in Fairbanks.
In the South, all eight teams are in action. The 1st place New Mexico Ice Wolves are 3-0-1 in their last four games and host the last place El Paso Rhinos. The red-hot Lone Star Brahmas have won four in a row and travel to Shreveport to play the Mudbugs. Amarillo is in Corpus Christi looking to snap a four-game losing streak, and Wichita Falls is in Odessa.
