Wisconsin goalie Beckford makes NCAA DI commitment
The Wisconsin Windigo, proud members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are pleased to announce that goaltender Max Beckford has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Michigan Tech University in the CCHA.
Beckford, 20, just completed his first season playing in the NAHL for the Windigo and second season of junior hockey overall. The 6’2/205 lbs. native of London, ON, appeared in 30 games during the 2022-23 regular season and posted an 18-11-1 record, which also included a 2.60 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.
Beckford was even better during the 2023 Robertson Cup Playoffs, posting a 4-2-0 record in seven games played with a 1.87 goals against average and .942 save percentage.
“I’m proud and excited to announce my commitment to play D1 college hockey at Michigan Tech University. Thank you to my family, friends, coaches, teammates, advisors, and everyone else who has helped me along my journey thus far,” stated Beckford on social media.
Beckford was named the NAHL’s Goalie of the Month for February 2023. He won all four of his starts during the month, allowing just seven goals in the four wins, which was good for a 1.75 goals against average during the month. Beckford stopped 137 of a possible 144 shots, which was good for a .951 save percentage during the month. He also had a 34-save shutout in a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Wilderness on February 17th.
