The Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that veteran defenseman David Helledy has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Bentley University in Atlantic Hockey.
“I’m extremely proud and honored to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at Bentley University. I’d like to thank God, my family, friends, and mentors for helping me get to this point,” said Helledy.
Helledy, 20, came into the Nordiques organization as a late addition in the 2021-22 season where he suited up during the last seven games of the season.
The 6’1/197 lbs. native of Milwaukee, WI, returned to the Nordiques full time in the 2022-23 season where he played in 55 games and recorded 6 goals and 15 assists, which was good for 21 points to help his team get to the East Division Finals last season. He also showed up on one of the grandest stages in the 2022 NAHL Showcase where he scored a goal and an assist against the NTDP.
So far during the 2023-24 season, Helledy has recorded two goals and nine assists for 11 points and leads the team in scoring for defensemen. His 11 points ranks in the Top 10 for all defensemen in the NAHL.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Helledy played two seasons at the New Hampton School.
