Maryland forward Schankula makes NCAA DI commitment
The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that forward and NAPHL alum Adam Schankula has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Bowling Green State University in the CCHA. Schankula will be joining the team shortly and play the second semester for the Falcons.
Schankula, 20, is a true ladder of development success story. The 6’2/205 lbs. native of Perrysburg, OH, is currently tied for the team scoring lead with 31 points (11 goals, 20 assists) in 29 games played thus far during the 2023-24 season.
“I would like to thank the Black Bears organization for the opportunities, and the experiences they have given me over the past three years. Thank you to every player and coach who has helped me along the way. And to my billets and the amazing fans. Maryland will always be a second home for me!” said Schankula.
This is Schankula’s third season playing for the Black Bears in the NAHL. He made his debut during the 2021-22 season, appearing in 11 games and recording five points. During the 2022-23 season, he posted 34 points in 54 games played and added four points in 10 Robertson Cup Playoff games. In 94 career NAHL games, Schankula has recorded 70 points.
“We're extremely excited for Adam and his family. This is his dream school and located right in his home backyard. Bowling Green is getting a fantastic player, and an outstanding human. Congrats to Adam, and we thank him for his time in Maryland. His teammates, billets and coaches will miss him, but we are a better program because of people like Adam,” said Maryland Head Coach/GM Clint Mylymok.
Prior to playing in the NAHL, Schankula played three seasons in the NAPHL T1ER League for the Tri-State Spartans. During the 2021-22 season he led the T1ER 18U Division in scoring with 49 points and was named to the All-NAPHL T1ER 18U 1st Team and played in the 2021-22 NAPHL All-Star Game.
In 54 career NAPHL games, Schankula recorded 66 points.
