Maine forward Romeo makes NCAA DI commitment
The Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Nick Romeo has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for UMass-Lowell in Hockey East.
“I am proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division 1 college hockey at Umass Lowell. I want to thank all my family, friends, teammates, coaches and everyone else who has helped me achieve this goal,” said Romeo.
Romeo, 18, began his first season of junior hockey in the NAHL with the Nordiques as the team captain. The 6’1/180 lbs native of New City, NY, suited up in 15 Nordiques games during the 2023-24 season and generated 21 points including 13 goals, one of which, an overtime winner to complete an epic comeback against the Black Bears.
He was named the East Division Star of the Week on October 16, 2023.
“Nicky quickly became one of the Nordiques most relied upon players getting it done on the PP, PK and 5 on 5. There wasn’t a situation where he didn’t succeed and his natural scoring ability lead his team to success and a hot start,” said Maine head coach Nick Skerlick.
Romeo has also appeared in 15 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL during the 2023-24 season, recording nine points, which includes eight goals.
