Brahmas and Black Bears Advance to Title Game

The 2024 North American Hockey League (NAHL) Robertson Cup National Championship continued on Saturday at Fogerty Ice Arena in Blaine, Minnesota, with the Lone Star Brahmas and Maryland Black Bears punching their ticket to the Championship game. 

Day Two Recaps:

Anchorage Wolverines 0 vs Lone Star Brahmas 2 (Lone Star wins series 2-0): The Lone Star Brahmas punched their ticket to the Robertson Cup Championship in shutout fashion after defeating the Anchorage Wolverines 2-0. After a scoreless first period, Ivan Zadvernyuk (16:28) scored while the Brahmas were on the penalty kill to get ahead 1-0 to close out the second period. In the third period, Justin Kerr (13:48) scored to seal the win for the Brahmas, 2-0. Lone Star goalie Deivs Rolovs posted an outstanding 37 shot shutout win. 

 

Minot Minotauros 2 vs. Maryland Black Bears 6 (Maryland wins series 2-0): The Maryland Black Bears took down the Minot Minotauros by a score of 6-2 to advance to the Robertson Cup Championship game. Maryland picked up a goal late in the first period with Jeremi Tremblay (15:23) scoring for a 1-0 game. In the second period, Nicholas Sewecke (3:09) evened the score for Minot, 1-1. Dylan Gordon (9:34) broke the tie for Maryland then was followed up by Jeremi Tremblay (13:28) for his second of the game for a 3-1 Black Bear lead. The third period saw its first goal by Sameul Stitz (12:58) to extend the Maryland lead to 4-1. Minot scored minutes later to chop the lead down to 2 goals with Cayden Casey (14:05) finding the back of the net for a 4-2 score. Later in the game, and with a Minot empty net, Jeremi Tremblay (18:11) scored his third of the game followed by Riley Ruh (18:36) to propel the Black Bears to a final score of 6-2. Maryland netminder Owen Lepak was fantastic as he turned away 46 shots on his way to the win. 

The Robertson Cup Championship game will be played on Tuesday May 21st at 7:00 PM CST.
