Austin Defenseman Bynum makes NCAA DI Commitment
The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman, Ashton Bynum, has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Brown University in the ECAC.
A Tulsa, Oklahoma native, Ashton Bynum started his season playing with the Fargo Force in the United States Hockey League before returning to the Bruins. His homecoming with the Bruins marks his third year playing with the squad. Over his last two seasons with Austin, he put together two goals and 28 assists.
“My time in Austin has helped me prepare to play at the collegiate level by providing an environment of super high competition and effort every day, where we push each other to be better,” stated Bynum. “I’m proud and honored to announce my commitment to play Division I college hockey and further my education at Brown University. I want to thank all of my coaches, teammates, and friends who helped me along the way,” said Bynum. “Most importantly, I want to thank my family for all of the sacrifices they made and the support they’ve given me to get to this point.”
Austin’s head coach, Steve Howard, has been Bynum’s coach for all three years.
“This is Ashton’s third year here in Austin and he is a perfect example of what developing in the NAHL will do for a player,” Howard stated. “He’s been able to get better each day, each year and we could not be happier for him and his family. Brown is getting a top-notch defenseman and a great person!”
Bynum is the sixth player to commit on the Bruins.
