Johnstown Forward Blanton makes NCAA DIII Commitment

The Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) is proud to announce that forward Sam Blanton has committed to play NCAA Division III for Bowdoin College in the NESCAC.

The 6’0 righty from Carrollton, Texas will play with the Polar Bears in the fall. Blanton has hit the ice in two separate seasons in the NAHL. The ‘04 skater made his NAHL debut with the Bismarck Bobcats and then played with the El Paso Rhinos for the 2022-2023 season. In his 11 games played he scored a goal and made two assists between the squads. This season he has played in 48 games with the Tomahawks. Blanton has tallied 12 goals and made 23 assists.

Between his initial debut in the league to this season, the Texas native played in the NCDC with the New Jersey Rockets and the USHL with the Sioux City Musketeers. At the Rockets, he laced up in 47 matchups and featured 22 goals and 29 assists for his squad. While at the Musketeers, he hit the ice in four contests and orchestrated two goals.

Head coach of the Tomahawks, Jared Kersner, explains his excitement for Blanton.

His dedication, hard work, and passion for the game have led him to this well-earned opportunity. I have no doubt he will continue to thrive, both on the ice and in the classroom."

Bowdoin College made it to the NESCAC Quarterfinals this past weekend and lost in overtime to Tufts University, 2-1. The Polar Bears have made six NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey tournament appearances, with their latest appearance in 2014.

Blanton is the eleventh member of the Johnstown Tomahawks to make a college ice hockey commitment.
