Rochester Forward Gionta makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Rochester Jr. Americans of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Adam Gionta has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Niagara University in the Atlantic.
The New York native will stay in the Empire State to skate with the Purple Eagles in the fall. The ‘05 second-year skater has played an integral role on the Jr. Americans squad. Gionta is a 5’8 lefty and he has tallied 28 goals and produced 39 assists. Six of his goals were game-winning goals and 14 of his goals were scored on the power play. Gionta was named as a Top Prospect for Team East at the 2025 Top Prospects Tournament. He scored the lone goal for the East Division squad during the tournament. So far in the playoffs this season, he has tallied two assists for the Jr. Americans.
Additionally, the ‘05 lefty has strong ties to the hockey world. Gionta’s father is former NHLer Brian Gionta. His father now serves as the Associate Head Coach of the Jr. Americans and helped to build the Rochester organization into what it is today. In Rochester’s first season in the NAHL, Adam Gionta laced up in 64 games. He scored 19 goals, made 28 assists, and featured a +6 rating. The New York native scored three game-winning goals and tallied six goals while on the power play.
Gionta shares his excitement to be joining the Purple Eagles in the fall.
“I’m honored and proud to announce my commitment to play Division I hockey at Niagara University. Thank you to my coaches and teammates along the way, and especially family and friends!”
Head coach of the Jr. Americans, Francois Methot, explains the development he has seen from Gionta.
“We are incredibly proud of Adam for his commitment to Division I hockey at Niagara University. Joining us last season as an 18-year-old, he faced the challenge of adjusting to the junior level. Through hard work and a strong commitment to our development approach, he truly excelled—especially after the Christmas break, and he hasn’t looked back since. This season, Adam has played a vital leadership role for our team, contributing significantly to our regular season success on and off the ice. Niagara is gaining an exceptionally talented player with a fierce competitive spirit, and we’re confident he will flourish there!”
Gionta is the seventh member of the Rochester Jr. Americans to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
