Oklahoma Warriors Announce Coaching Change

May 28, 2025

The Oklahoma Warriors of the North American Hockey League named Mick Berge as the franchise’s third head coach.

Oklahoma native, Berge, takes over the Head Coach role after serving as the Assistant Coach of the Warrior this past season. Berge brings knowledge and experience to the role through his coaching and playing experience. Over the past ten years, he has served as the Assistant Coach to Minot Minotauros, Lincoln Stars, and the Oklahoma Warriors. Alongside his coaching, Berge has played junior, Division I, and professional hockey. He spent three seasons with the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2002-2005. In his first season with the Stars, they took home the Clark Cup National Championship. Following his junior days, he played with the Mavericks at Minnesota State Mankato from 2005 to 2009. In his final season as a Maverick, he was tied for first on his roster with 31 total points on the year.

Following his college career, he played in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays and then in the CHL with the Allen Americans the Texas Brahmas. While at the Brahmas, he was coached by fellow South Division Head Coach, Dan Wildfong.

Berge shares his excitement for the upcoming season and gratitude to Weossner.

“I couldn’t be more excited about taking this job in my hometown. I’d like to thank Nate for his work over the last year and what he did to set this team up for success. He’s leaving the team in a good spot, and there’s going to be big shoes to fill. As head coach, I will strive to make our program known as a premier development program throughout the world and one that our fans can be proud of each and every day. Thank you to our owner George Chalos for trusting me with this opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to make our organization one of the best in the NAHL.”

Berge is taking over the Oklahoma Warriors Head Coach position from Nate Weossner. Weossner stepped down to pursue other opportunities outside of hockey.
