Corpus Christi Goaltender Motew makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Benji Motew has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Miami University in the NCHC.

The 6’0 netminder from Illinois will play as a RedHawk in the fall. Motew is a first-year skater in the NAHL. He started his season with the Maryland Black Bears where he played between the pipes in 25 games. He featured a 14-9-1-1 record, a 2.43 goals against average and a .911 save percentage with the East Division team before being acquired by the IceRays midseason. 

He joined Corpus Christi at the end of January and played a critical role in helping the South Division team in securing a postseason position. While in the blue paint, Motew spotlighted a 2.64 goals against average and a .918 save percentage over 20 games with the IceRays. He secured 11 wins and produced one shutout with Corpus Christi.

Motew shared his excitement about joining the program on social media. 

“l am very excited to announce my commitment to play Division I college hockey at Miami University. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and anyone else who has helped me along the way.”

Assistant Coach of the IceRays, Phil Oberlin, shares excitement for Motew’s commitment.

“We're proud of Benji and the effort he has put in while being a member of the IceRays. His outstanding play, specifically throughout the playoffs, showcased why he is deserving of the opportunity to play at NCAA Division I level. They're not only getting a great hockey player but an unbelievable person.”

Motew is the seventh member of the Corpus Christi IceRays to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
