Odessa Defenseman Pietila makes NCAA DI Commitment

July 16, 2025

The Odessa Jackalopes of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Braden Pietila has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Michigan Tech University in the CCHA.

The 6’1 lefty from Howell, Michigan is returning to his home state to skate with the Huskies in the fall. Pietila is a second-year veteran of the Jackalopes. This past season Pietila led defensemen on his roster with 34 total points on the year and doubled his point total from last year to this season. He found the back of the net six times over 59 games and his 29 assists rank him second overall on the Odessa roster for the season. The ‘04 blueliner was named as a 2025 Top Prospect for the South Division Team at the Top Prospects Tournament this year. In the two-game event, he produced an assist for the South Division team.

In the Michigan native's debut season with Odessa, he hit the ice in 59 contests, tallying two goals and 15 assists. Pietila shared his excitement about joining the program on social media.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to play Division I hockey at Michigan Tech University. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has helped me along the way.”

Head Coach of the Jackalopes, Scott Deur, shares his excitement for Pietila to join the Huskies.

“We are excited for Braden and his commitment to Michigan Tech. It’s been a dream of his since he was young and glad to see it come full circle. He has been a leader the last two seasons and has always done things right both on and off the ice. His work ethic and determination to be better every day are what make him stand out. We look forward to watching him grow and advance further.”

Pietila is the second member of the Odessa Jackalopes to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
