Wisconsin Forward John Halverson makes NCAA Commitment

The Wisconsin Windigo of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward John Halverson has committed to play NCAA hockey for Middlebury College in the NESCAC.

Hailing from the State of Hockey, Halverson is heading to Middlebury, Vermont, to skate with the Panthers. The ‘05 skater laced up in 65 games this season. The 5’10 righty started his year with the Northeast Generals, hitting the ice in 31 games. He found the back of the net four times and produced seven assists for the East Division team. He was then acquired by the Windigo in early January. Halverson hit the ice in 34 games, tallying four goals and 12 assists. 

Last year, Halverson got a taste of the NAHL by playing in one game for the Northeast Generals following playing with his high school team, the Edina Hornets in Minnesota. That season was especially sweet for Halverson because the Hornets went home as the Minnesota State High School Hockey Champions.

Halverson will join five fellow NAHL players this fall at Middlebury College. Joining him are Landon Brownlee from the Rochester Jr. Americans, Luc Malkhassian from the Austin Bruins, Caden Morgan from the Corpus Christi IceRays, Tyler Wishart from the St. Cloud Norsemen, and James Schneid from the New Jersey Titans. 

Head Coach of Windigo, John Mitchell, shares what it meant to have Halverson on the roster.

“Johnny galvanized our middle six forward position. He really allowed us to give opposing teams multiple looks, and allowed us to be extremely versatile down the line. It was a key ingredient to our success. He will also be missed around the locker room. We wish him the best out east.”

Halverson is one of nine members of the Wisconsin Windigo to make a college ice hockey commitment.
