Lone Star Defenseman Gnetz makes NCAA Commitment

The Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Trey Gnetz has committed to play NCAA hockey for University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the WIAC.

First-year NAHL skater, Gnetz, will join the Blugolds in fall in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The 5’9 blueliner from the State of Hockey has hit the ice this season in 56 games between three teams in the NAHL. He started his year with the Odessa Jackalopes and laced up 15 contests. The Woodbury, Minnesota native found the back of the net two times and produced seven assists. One of his two goals was scored on the man advantage. Following his time in Odessa, he was acquired by the Minnesota Mallards. While playing in the Central Division, Gnetz scored three goals and notched seven assists in his 15 games played. Additionally, one of his three goals was scored on the power play.

Following playing with the Mallards, the 20-year-old was acquired by the Lone Star Brahmas in early February. With the Texas team, Gnetz hit the ice in 26 games with the Brahmas and registered one goal while producing six assists. He featured a +9 rating during his time with Lone Star.

Gnetz will join Brent Gulenchyn, Wyatt Carlson from the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, and Andrew Hayek from the Corpus Christi IceRays this upcoming fall.

Gnetz is one of eleven members of the Lone Star Brahmas to make a college hockey commitment.
