Austin Defenseman Mellgren makes NCAA Commitment

The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Ludvig Mellgren has committed to play NCAA hockey for Gustavus Adolphus College in the MIAC.
The 5’9 lefty from Sweden is heading to St. Peter, Minnesota, to skate with the Golden Gusties. Mellgren is a first-year blueliner in the NAHL. Mellgren hit the ice in 61 games for the Bruins this season. The 21-year-old found the back of the net four times, while notching 26 assists. One of his four goals was scored on the man advantage. He features a +24 rating on the season.
Mellgren was named as a Top Prospect for the Central Division team at the 2025 Top Prospects Tournament. During the two-day tournament, Mellgren found the back of the net against Team Midwest and was named the game-winning goal in the contest.
The blueliner will have a familiar face in the fall, because his Austin teammate, Emil Samuelsson, will also lace up for Gustavus Adolphus College.
Head Coach of the Bruins, Steve Howard, shares his excitement for Mellgren this upcoming fall.
“We’re thrilled for Ludvig. One of his goals in coming to Austin was to get noticed by college programs, and he’s absolutely earned this opportunity with Gustavus. We’re looking forward to following his career.”
Mellgren is one of 13 members of the Austin Bruins to make a college ice hockey commitment.
