Chippewa Defenseman Sondreal makes NCAA Commitment

The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Zach Sondreal has committed to play NCAA hockey for University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the WIAC.

Third-year Steel veteran Sondreal will head to Wisconsin to lace up with the Falcons in River Falls. The 6’0 righty this past season played in 61 games in the green and white. Sondreal found the back of the net five times and notched 23 assists. Two of his goals were named as the game-winning goal, while three goals were scored on the man advantage.

Last season, the Woodbury, Minnesota native hit the ice in 60 games. He tallied two goals while making 15 assists. In Sondreal’s debut season, he played in 59 games with the Steel. The ‘04 blueliner scored three goals and made 12 assists. One of his goals was named the game-winning goal, and one goal was scored in the man-advantage.

Sondreal played a total of 180 games over his three seasons. The defenseman scored 10 goals and made 50 assists for a total of 60 career points.

Sondreal will join 20+ NAHL alumni on UW-River Falls. UW-River Falls, which is located 30 minutes from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, plays in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and are 19-time WIAC Champions. The three-time NCAA National Champions play their home games out of the brand new 65-million-dollar W.H. Hunt Arena, located directly on campus.

Sondreal is one of 11 members of the Chippewa Steel to make a college hockey commitment.
