The Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Grant Kohnen has committed to play NCAA hockey for University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the WIAC.
The second-year veteran of the NAHL, Kohnen, is heading to Wisconsin to skate in River Falls in the fall. The 5’10 righty from Woodbury, Minnesota, started his season with the Minnesota Mallards. Kohnen hit the ice in 22 games, tallying six goals and 14 assists. One of his six goals was scored on the man advantage. Kohnen was then acquired by the Nordiques halfway through the season. In his 19 games with Maine, he found the back of the net twice and produced three assists.
His debut season saw the 20-year-old lace up with the Aberdeen Wings. He laced up in 43 games with the South Dakota team. He found the back of the net eight times and produced three assists. Three of his eight goals were named as the decider in contests.
Kohnen will join 20+ NAHL alumni on UW-River Falls. UW-River Falls, which is located 30 minutes from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, plays in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and are 19-time WIAC Champions. The three-time NCAA National Champions play their home games out of the brand new 65-million-dollar W.H. Hunt Arena, located directly on campus.
Kohnen is one of the thirteen members of the Maine Nordiques to make a college hockey commitment.
