Maryland Captain Drury makes NCAA DI Commitment
The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Owen Drury has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Stonehill College.
Hailing from the Golden State, Drury will head to Massachusetts to skate with the Skyhawks next fall. The second-year veteran has hit the ice in 25 games so far this season and has tallied five goals while notching 16 assists. The captain features two game-winning goals and spotlights a +8 rating on the year. The 20-year-old is coming off a big five-point weekend against the New Hampshire Mountain Kings. He scored a goal while making four assists for his team.
Last year, the 6-foot-4 righty joined the Black Bears midseason. He laced up for 30 games, scoring three goals while securing 10 assists. Additionally, one of his three goals was scored on the man advantage.
Hockey runs deep in Drury’s family, with his dad and older brother playing on one of the biggest stages, the National Hockey League. His brother, Jack Drury, currently skates for the Colorado Avalanche.
Drury went into detail on his excitement for the next step of his hockey career and his gratitude for his team.
“I want to thank everyone in the Black Bears organization, along with my family and friends, for helping make this possible. I'm extremely grateful for my time so far in Maryland. I’m excited to keep pushing towards bringing the Robertson Cup to Maryland!”
Head coach of the Black Bears, Clint Mylymok, shares more on Drury’s leadership qualities and what it means to see him have the opportunities at the next level.
“Dru decided to come to Maryland last year, and we could not have been more fortunate. He is a vocal leader, extremely selfless, and also very talented. We are excited for Owen and his family, who have been there every step of the way. Stonehill College is getting a player who truly understands what it takes, on and off the ice.”
Drury is one of seven members of the Maryland Black Bears to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
