Sunday Wrap-up: Maine Secures Weekend Sweep Over Northeast

The Nordiques have now won three-straight games to hold on to second place in the East Division with 34 points – one point ahead of New Jersey, who have won five-straight contests. The Generals' losing streak now hits three games with the loss, but remain slotted in fifth place in the East Division with 29 points – two points ahead of sixth-place Johnstown. The teams battled to a near-scoreless opening 20 minutes until Maine’s Austin Borggaard notched his ninth goal of the season with 15 seconds left until the first-period buzzer. The opening period included nine saves from Wood. The second period was more of the same as the first period, with offense hard to come by for both teams. Myers nabbed his first goal of the game and seventh of the season just under seven minutes into the middle frame for the only goal of the period. The second period was the busiest stretch for Wood, where he stopped all 10 Northeast shots he faced. Maine’s defense stood strong in the third period, allowing just six shots through to Wood, who stopped all six. The offense sealed the 4-0 shutout win with goals from Pete Luecke (first) and Myers’ second goal of the game and eighth of the season – both of the empty-net variety.
