Lone Star 3 @ Corpus Christi 2 - The Lone Star Brahmas were riding into this contest, looking to extend their winning ways from Saturday night, while the Corpus Christi IceRays were in the hunt to respond to the loss on home ice. The matchup quickly kicked off with Lone Star on the power play around the 18-minute mark. Thanks to the man advantage, Denver Damphousse scores a power-play tally to bring the score 1-0. The matchup moved into the second period and it was going to look like a scoreless frame; however, with 28 seconds on the clock, Andrej Paricka found twine on the power play to even the score 1-1. As the matchup headed into the final 20 minutes of regulation, it was shaping up to be an exciting one. At the 13:54 minute mark, Gustav Lexell lights the lamp for Lone Star, giving the Brahmas the 2-1 advantage. A little over two minutes later, Lone Star would extend its lead, this time with Vladimir Saibel scoring his eighth of the season. Corpus Christi would bring the score within one when Johnny Maruna would score at the 4:23 minute mark. The IceRays would eventually fall, and Lone Star would secure the weekend sweep against their in-state rival. Between the pipes for the Brahmas, Leo Gabriel, stopped 24 out of 26 shots on net.
El Paso 5 @ Amarillo 2 - After falling to the Amarillo Wranglers the night before, the El Paso Rhinos were looking to return to their winning ways. The matchup started with the Rhinos showing up on the scoresheet first. El Paso’s Jackson Potulny finds twine at the midway point of the opening period to give the Rhinos the lead. Almost three minutes later, Amarillo would even the score when Ty Izadi lit the lamp. However, that even scoreboard would be short-lived. Ethan Woolcott would give El Paso the lead heading into the intermission thanks to a tally at the 5:43 minute mark. As the matchup moved forward, El Paso would take the reins in the second frame. The scoring started when Troy Hunka would score on the man advantage a little over 90 seconds into the period. The power-play scoring would continue, this time with Chase Nyitray finding twine for the Rhinos around the 14 minute mark. Following that tally, Amarillo would pull their starting netminder, Gavin Schahn and have Charles Antoine-Girard take reins in the crease. The contest progressed into the third period and El Paso had a very cushioned 4-1 lead. In the final four minutes of regulations, the Wranglers would cut the Rhinos’ lead in half with a goal by Daniel Rassega. The scoring would even when El Paso’s Potulny would tally his second of the night, this time in empty-netter fashion. The Rhinos would skate away with a 5-2 victory. Between the pipes for El Paso, Logan Hughes featured a 29-save performance, helping to lift his team to a victory.
