The Springfield Jr. Blues of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Joey Mugaas has committed to play NCAA hockey for University of Dubuque in the NCHA.

The 6-foot-2 blueliner from the State of Hockey, Mugaas, will join the Spartans in the fall in Dubuque, Iowa. The 20-year-old is in his second full season of playing in the League of Opportunity. This year, he has laced up in 39 games for the Jr. Blues, tallying two goals while producing 10 assists. He features a +8 rating during his time in a Springfield sweater.

Last season, the ‘05 defenseman hit the ice in 36 games for the Aberdeen Wings, notching four assists with the Central Division team. Mugaas got his first taste of the NAHL back in the 2023-24 season during a four-game stint with the Northeast Generals.

Head coach of the Jr. Blues, Todd Pococke, explains what it means to see Mugaas secure a commitment.

“Joey’s been a rock for us on the back end all season. He plays hard every shift and is difficult to play against. We’re very proud of him, and his commitment is well earned!”

Mugaas is one of six members of the Springfield Jr. Blues to make a college ice hockey commitment.
