El Paso Complete Weekend Sweep Over Odessa
by Margaret Pugh
El Paso 4 @ Odessa 2 - It was a weekend sweep for the El Paso Rhinos, who earned a final win on Sunday after a fierce fight from the Odessa Jackalopes. The Jackalopes kept pressure on the Rhinos throughout the game, only being outshot 31-29 and even getting on the board first after a scoreless first period. Chris Graves scored the first for Oessa just a minute into the middle frame while the Jackalopes were on the remaining seconds of a power play from the first period. Troy Hunka responded for the Rhinos, assisted by Ian Kastamo and Ethan Woolcott. Kamden Kaiser scored El Paso’s next while on a man advantage, assisted by Hunka and Woolcott. Kaiser, Hunka, and Woolcott had a strong presence in this game, which does not come as much surprise considering the three are their team’s leaders in goals and assists. El Paso's Aidan Bergner added another late in the period to make the score 3-1 entering a mostly quiet third period. However, the action ramped up in the final minutes of the match. Caden Ghiossi, who currently leads Odessa in goals this season, scored short-handed with 1:07 on the clock. The Rhinos still were not finished, though. Kaiser netted his second goal of the game with just nine seconds left in the match, assisted again by Hunka and Woolcott. Michael Modelski was in goal for the Rhinos, earning his third win of the weekend. Modelski made 27 saves to secure victory for the Rhinos.
