New Hampshire Defenseman Cherepanov makes NCAA DI Commitment

February 24, 2026

The New Hampshire Mountain Kings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Mikhail Cherepanov has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Lake Superior State University in the CCHA.

The 6-foot-2 blueliner from Yekaterinburg, Russia, has committed to Lake Superior State University. Cherepanov just turned 18 years old, however, he has already made a huge impact from the blue line. The ‘08 skater leads the Mountain Kings with 17 assists on the season while is tied second with 20 points on the year. His offensive prowess also features the defenseman finding the back of the net three times, with two of the goals being power-play tallies.

His work on the ice earned him a spot at the 2026 Top Prospects Tournament on the Selects White roster. Cherepanov helped his team secure a 3-2 victory over the U.S. National Team Development Program at the USA Hockey Arena.

Cherepanov explains his excitement to commit to Lake Superior State.

“I am proud to announce my commitment to the future powerhouse, Lake Superior State University. I would like to thank my coaches and all the people that have helped me to get to this point. And most importantly my family and friends for their support and belief in me.”

Head coach of the Mountain Kings, Cam Robichaud, went into detail on what it means to see Cherepanov secure a commitment.

“I am excited for Misha and his family! Misha has been a constant on our blue line all year. His poise with the puck, vision, and ability to defend the rush are elite. As a 2008 birth year, he has demonstrated maturity well beyond his years. I am looking forward to watching Misha compete at the NCAA Division I level and beyond!”

Cherepanov is one of three members of the New Hampshire Mountain Kings to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
