Tuesday Thriller: The Warriors Complete the Come Back in Overtime Fashion

New Mexico 5 @ Oklahoma 6 (OT) - Featuring a come-from-behind victory for the second night in a row, the Oklahoma Warriors took down the Ice Wolves in overtime fashion. The contest featured a scoring frenzy in the opening frame, with New Mexico scoring three consecutive goals within the first 10 minutes of the game. The captain, Sean Gibbons, lit the lamp first with a tally a little over a minute into the game. Four minutes later, New Mexico’s Jeremy Sprung found twine on the man advantage to give his team the 2-0 edge. Midway through the period, in opposite fashion, the Ice Wolves score shorthanded thanks to an unassisted goal by Jake Kasay. With a three-goal deficit to chip away at, the Warriors got to work and scored a pair of goals thanks to Mason Wright and Ben Osiashvilli. However, the scoring would not stop for New Mexico in the first, with Gibbons scoring his second goal of the game, giving his team a 4-2 lead heading into the intermission. The second period was not quite as frenzied as the opening period, but a trio of goals was scored between the two teams. Oklahoma would strike first with a tally by Trace Day at the 18:36 minute mark. The Ice Wolves would go on the power play midway through the period, and New Mexico’s Sprung would score his second power-play goal of the contest. With a few minutes on the clock in the middle frame, Oklahoma’s Wright would take advantage of the man advantage for the Warriors and score a power-play tally, cutting their once three-goal deficit to just one. Continuing the theme of two-goal nights, Oklahoma’s Day would find twine once again, tying up the score 4-4. Both teams would trade chances however, no one would score again in the final period of regulation. As the contest moved into overtime, the Warriors would come out on top with an unassisted tally by Jakub Galnor in the final moments of the game. The Warriors take the win with 35 seconds to spare in overtime.

North Iowa 1 @ Minnesota M 2 (OT) - In a Tuesday showdown at the Forest Lake Sport Center, the Minnesota Mallards hosted the North Iowa Bulls for a midweek game. The first two periods would be scoreless as both teams traded chances. The scoring did not commence until the 12-minute mark of the third frame, where Minnesota’s Paul Spino would score his first tally of the season. The Bulls would immediately strike back, finding twine 30 seconds later. Vitaliy Korolyuk secured his 15th goal of the season, this one in game-tying fashion. As the contest was forced into overtime, the Mallards would be skating home with the win on home ice. Minnesota’s Ty Gordon lit the lamp with 54 seconds on the clock. Between the pipes for Minnesota, Connor Mackenzie turned aside 34 out of 35 shots.
