Aberdeen Captain Pitters makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Owen Pitters has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Northern Michigan University in the CCHA.

The 6-foot-1 righty from Macomb, Michigan, will head back to his home state to play for the Wildcats in the fall. Pitters is a second-year veteran of the Wings, representing the red and black in 83 career games. The 20-year-old has been an offensive force on Aberdeen this season. In his 44 games played so far in his 2025-26 campaign, the captain has tallied a team-leading 23 goals, while ranking second on his roster with 49 points on the season. Pitters has produced 26 assists, playing a critical role in shifting the momentum for his team. His production on the power play has been a key piece of his scoring ways this year, scoring nine goals on the man advantage while making 11 assists on the power play. There have been five games this season where Pitters has scored the game-winner for the Wings. He is tied first on his team for game-winning goals with University of Alaska-Anchorage commit Matthew Martin.

In Pitters’ debut season in the League of Opportunity, the Michigan native hit the ice in 39 games, finding the back of the net 10 times while notching 13 assists. Prior to playing in the NAHL, Pitters was drafted in the 2024 NAHL Entry Draft in the third round, 89th overall, by the Wings.

The captain shares his gratitude to the people who have helped him in securing a commitment.

Head coach and general manager of the Wings, Scott Langer, explains what it means to see Pitters receive this opportunity.

“I could not be happier for Owen. He has navigated a tough road to get where he is today. He has really matured as a Wing, and his game will for sure translate at the next level. Northern Michigan is getting a great human and player.”

Pitters is one of nine members of the Aberdeen Wings to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
