Rochester Alternate Captain Shaw makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Rochester Jr. Americans of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Ryan Shaw has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Rochester Institute of Technology in the Atlantic.

The NAHL’s top goal-scorer will not be heading far after playing for the Jr. Americans this season; Shaw will skate with the Tigers at RIT in the fall. The 5-foot-10 skater from East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, has been on an offensive tear this season. The 21-year-old features 72 points in his 49 games played this season. Shaw has tallied a league-leading 37 goals while making 35 assists for the East Division team. His offensive prowess on the ice is highlighted by the second-year skater securing 23 multi-point games for the Jr. Americans this year. Shaw has tallied five game-winning goals and leads his roster in every offensive category. The Massachusetts native, in addition, spotlights a +24 rating so far this season. The alternate captain was recognized for his ability on the ice as he was named as a Top Prospect for the East Division team this season at the 2026 Top Prospects Tournament. His recognition does not end there, as Shaw has been named as an East Division Star of the Week twice this year.

Last season, Shaw started his NAHL career with the New Jersey Titans. He skated with the Titans in 19 contests, finding the back of the net four times while securing 14 assists. Following his time with New Jersey, the ‘05 forward was acquired by the Jr. Americans, where he played in 42 games for Rochester. Shaw tallied 16 goals and notched 22 assists for the New York-based team. His offensive prowess in the playoffs last year was crucial for the Jr. Americans in punching their ticket to Blaine, Minnesota, for the Robertson Cup.

The alternate captain expresses his gratitude to the people who have helped him secure a commitment.

Head coach and general manager of the Jr. Americans, Francois Methot, shares more on the development that he has seen from Shaw’s game.

Shaw is one of seven members of the Rochester Jr. Americans to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
