Saturday Scores: Maryland Secures Regular Season Title with Victory

Springfield 2 @ Wisconsin 3 (OT) - The Wisconsin Windigo edged out the Springfield Jr. Blues in a tightly contested 3–2 overtime victory. Both teams traded goals early, with each side finding the net in the first period. Wisconsin gained a slight edge in the second, adding another goal while limiting Springfield’s chances. The Jr. Blues responded in the third to tie the game, but despite a strong push, they couldn’t find the winner. In overtime, Wisconsin capitalized on its opportunities to seal the win. The Windigo outshot Springfield 26–23, with goaltender Max Larsson making 21 saves in a solid effort. Jackson Ernst led the way with a goal and strong presence, while physical play was a major factor as the game featured over 70 combined penalty minutes.

Northeast 6 @ Danbury 2 - The Northeast Generals delivered a commanding performance on the road Saturday night, skating to a decisive 6-2 victory over the Danbury Hat Tricks. Northeast established an early rhythm in the opening period, as Tyler Kelly started the scoring with a goal assisted by Andrew Gibbons. Danbury’s Kai Elkie managed to knot the game at 1-1 with help from Matt Dabrowski, but Vinny Ipri responded for the Generals late in the frame to reclaim a 2-1 lead. The Generals blew the game open in the second period, striking three times to pull away. Jackson Rutherford ignited the surge with a tally, followed shortly by Rich Rucireto scoring off a feed from Logan Poulin. Rutherford then added his second of the night behind setups from Beckett Hinchsliff and Owen O'Rear to make it a 5-1 game. The Hat Tricks attempted a push in the final frame when Ludovik Gauvin scored off assists from Lukas Zimovcak and Willem Kerr, but the Generals' defense remained stout. Rich Rucireto capped off the night with his second goal to finalize the 6-2 scoreline. In net, Keagin Wilson provided a steady presence for Northeast, turning away 31 shots to protect the lead and secure the road win. With the result, the Generals move to 27 wins on the season as they continue their push for postseason positioning.

New Jersey 5 @ Rochester 4 - The New Jersey Titans showed out in a major way on the road Saturday night for a 5-4 victory over the Rochester Jr. Americans. New Jersey established an early rhythm in the first period, jumping out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Kean Brushaber and Jonathan Lanza, both of whom were set up by Arseniy Zharikov with an assist each for Skogen Schrott and Eduard Gubelzade. Rochester refused to stay down, however, answering back before the first intermission with goals from Leo Mantenuto and Keanan Dewberry to knot the game at two apiece. With Colin Dustin, Michael Gravina, Clay O’Donnell, and Leo Mantenuto all having helping hands on the goal. The back-and-forth action continued into the second frame; Josh Bostedo reclaimed the lead for the Titans following assists from Schrott and Zharikov, but the Jr. Americans responded once again with a Dustin tally off assists from Ryan Flaherty and Konner Powell to keep the score tied heading into the final twenty minutes. The drama reached its peak in the third period as Rochester took their first lead of the night through an Adam Gionta goal as Dustin and Gravina helped set it up. Facing a late deficit, the Titans' top performers delivered in the clutch. Skogen Schrott buried the equalizer off feeds from Ty Creech and Gubeladze before Arseniy Zharikov played the hero, firing home the game-winner with help from Schrott and Owen Leahy to seal the 5-4 result. While New Jersey celebrates their 30-win season, the hard-fought contest serves as the 18th loss of the campaign for the Rochester Jr. Americans.

Philadelphia 3 @ Maryland 5 - The Maryland Black Bears continued their dominant season with a 5–3 win over the Philadelphia Rebels. Maryland struck first in the opening period and took control in the second, scoring three times to build a commanding lead. The Rebels pushed back in the third with two goals, but Maryland answered to maintain control and secure the victory. The Black Bears outshot Philadelphia 27–17 and capitalized on special teams with a power-play goal. Trey Hinton and William Esterbrooks contributed key performances, while Maryland’s balanced attack and disciplined play proved too much for the Rebels.

Elmira 4 @ Maine 1 - The Elmira Aviators delivered a dominant performance early, scoring all four of their goals in the first period en route to a 4–1 win over the Maine Nordiques. Elmira came out flying, overwhelming Maine with quick offensive bursts and capitalizing on power-play opportunities. Despite being outshot 28–24 overall, the Aviators’ early lead proved insurmountable. Maine managed to get on the board in the third period, but couldn’t generate enough offense to mount a comeback. Kevin Delaney led the way with two goals, while goaltender Aiden McKenna stood strong with 27 saves to preserve the win.

New Hampshire 5 @ Johnstown 4 (SO) - The New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings displayed remarkable perseverance on Saturday night, overcoming a late deficit to defeat the Johnstown Tomahawks 5-4 in a thrilling shootout. The Tomahawks controlled the early pace, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Emerson Marshall and Justin Chiras. New Hampshire responded quickly through Aidan Petroff to cut the lead in half, but Johnstown’s Sean Morgan restored the two-goal cushion before the first intermission. The Jr. Mountain Kings found their rhythm in the second frame as Petroff notched his second of the night and Lucas Mann buried a chance to knot the game at 3-3. The drama intensified in the final frame when Charlie Zetterkvist put the Tomahawks ahead just minutes into the period. Refusing to go quietly, New Hampshire’s Ronnie Hill fired home the equalizer in the closing seconds to force the extra session. After a scoreless overtime, the contest moved to a shootout where Jaden Johnson proved to be the hero, finding the back of the net to clinch the extra point and the 5-4 victory for the home squad. The victory is a significant one for the Jr. Mountain Kings, marking their 22nd win on their campaign.

Aberdeen 4 @ Minnesota M 1 - In the first period, the Wings had 15 chances on Minnesota's Troy Wright. But Wright made those key saves to keep the game tied at zero. However, during the second period, the Wings finally stomped down and put a tally on the board, as David Hruby snapped one in to open the scoring. Furthermore, about two minutes later, Caden Lee kept it going by scoring off a bad turnover in Minnesota's end. From the third, they continued their streak by grabbing another pair of goals for their collection. Brody Dustin fed Jibber Kuhl to tip it in three minutes into the frame. Minutes after that, Jon Doucette bounced one in to make it four-nothing. However, right off the centre ice faceoff, Drew Bowe set up Bryce Wiitala to break the ice for the Mallards. Trailing by three, the Mallards were still left to dry, struggling to generate offense compared to the powerhouse in Aberdeen's forwards. Two minutes to go, Kuhl grabbed another to seal the deal at 4-1.

St. Cloud 1 @ Watertown 4 - The Watertown Shamrocks looked to bounce back after a tough loss the previous night to the St Cloud Norsemen, while the Norsemen looked to sweep the Shamrocks. Zach Boren would strike first for the Shamrocks on a power-play goal midway through the period. Two minutes later, Kyle Greene would extend the lead for the Shamrocks, 2-0. The Norsemen would answer with Christian Garrity finding the net, 2-1. The second would have up and down chances, but no scoring for either team. In the third, Greene would strike again with just four minutes left in regulation to take a 3-1 lead for the Shamrocks. Payton Struck would seal the deal for the home team with an empty netter with 50 seconds left. The Shamrocks would get revenge, winning 4-1, and pick up two important points in the Central Division race for the post-season. 

Bismarck 6 @ North Iowa 1 - The North Iowa Bulls looked to avenge their loss the previous night, while the Bobcats looked for the weekend sweep. The Bobcats struck first on a power-play goal two minutes into the game by Caden Bell, assisted by Alex Lunski and Noah Ziskie. The Bobcats would add three more goals for the 4-0 lead before the end of the period. In the second, Mark Evans and Bell would each find twine for the Bobcats to extend their lead 6-0. The Bulls would get on the board with just under three minutes left on the power play by Niko Russ, assisted by Zachary Howard and Jack Holland. The third would be a physical one, but no scoring would occur. The Bobcats take this one 6-1. 

Oklahoma 6 @ Amarillo 4 - In the first period, Jake Boulanger stole the puck in Oklahoma's end to bury it and open the scoring. Moments after that, Alfons Jentler kept it going for the Wranglers. However, the Warriors responded before too long, as Alex Duhon answered back. Then, in the second, the Warriors kept it going and silenced the home crowd. Five minutes in, Mason Wright kept the momentum going, slapping in a feed by Denny Oh. Furthermore, Jakub Galnor tipped in a redirect created by Trace Day. And before going into the final frame, Max Gagnon grabbed his first of the season. Now in the third, the Warriors kept scoring unanswered, as three minutes in, Gagnon set up Nolan Davis to make it 5-2. But minutes later, the Wranglers finally woke up and responded with two back-to-back goals. Michael Tarasenko fed Danylo Dolin to rip one in the back of the net. Then Kolos Feher followed to put them within one. Later on, the team pulled their netminder for the extra attacker. But they would regret that after Jakub Galnor iced it for the empty netter.

Minnesota W 6 @ Chippewa 1 - The Wilderness traveled back to the home of the Steel in Wisconsin for the finale in the season series. The first had back-and-forth action between the two teams until the Wilderness struck first with a minute left in the period. Joseph Luger would find the net, assisted by Noah Dziver and Theo Kiss. In the second, the Wilderness would add two more goals, with one on the power play for a 3-0 lead into the final frame. In the third, Dziver would add two quick ones on the power play and a shorthanded goal. Talan Blanck would net his second of the night four minutes later, also on the power play. The Steel would break through with just six minutes remaining in regulation on a power-play goal by Mason Johnson, assisted by Austin Boyce. The Wilderness would take this one 6-1. 

Shreveport 2 @ Odessa 3 (SO) - The Shreveport Mudbugs showcased their resilience on the road, battling through a defensive-minded contest to secure a 3-2 shootout victory over the Odessa Jackalopes. The Mudbugs jumped out to an early lead in the first period when Charlie Burchfield found the back of the net off feeds from Jonah Jasser and Johnathon Berndt. Odessa responded in the second frame as Daniel Kuczkowski knotted the game off the feed from Caden Ghiossi, but Joseph Samango reclaimed the lead for Shreveport later in the period with help from Jasser and Evan Adams. The Jackalopes refused to go quietly, forcing the extra session in the final frame when Henry Thornton beat the keeper following assists from Alex Thomas and Ghiossi. After a scoreless overtime, the physical affair moved to a shootout to determine a winner. Alex Thomas provided the heroics for the visiting squad, firing home the game-winning shootout goal to clinch the extra point. The contest was a true goaltending clinic; Odessa's Kevin Jones was stellar in the crease with 28 saves, while Ethan Phillips put up a massive performance for the Mudbugs, recording 36 saves to preserve the win. With the 3-2 result, Shreveport officially notched their 25th victory of the year.

Corpus Christi 6 @ Lone Star 2 - The IceRays started off the first period by sneaking in a trio of goals. Colin Watson opened the scoring 28 seconds in. Then Andrej Paricka followed suit, while Nick Sinani made it three-nothing at 8:29. A minute after Sinani’s goal, Gustav Lexell broke the ice for the Brahmas. Then, in the second, Leo Isaksson kept it going quickly into the frame, burying one from Dylan McFadden's playmaker. A minute after that, though, the Rays answered back, as Paricka picked up another one. Shortly thereafter, Sinani also grabbed his second of the night when Watson set him up. In the third, Jon Cifaldi finished the night for the IceRays.

Austin 6 @ Minot 1 - Late into the first period, Gavin Hruza opened the scoring, racking up his 31st goal of the year. Moments in, Sam Kline would get set up by Carter McKay to tuck one in. Quickly into the middle frame, however, the Minotauros responded when Nikita Kolmykov lasered in his first of the season. Then shortly thereafter, Hruza one-timed in a cross-ice feed by Siamion Marshchanok on the power play. Furthermore, McKay set up Michael Coleman to capitalize on another power play run. 20 seconds after that, they would score again, as Nathan Williams kept it rolling. Going into the third, both clubs traded goals, as Briggs Knott responded for the Minotauros at 16:35. Then at 3:33, Hudson Routh jailbroke one in while short-handed.

New Mexico 1 @ El Paso 4 - The El Paso Rhinos continued their winning ways against the New Mexico Ice Wolves at the El Paso County Event Center. The contest kicked off with El Paso’s Ian Kastamo scoring his 20th tally of the year to give the Rhinos the lead in the opening frame. Moving into the second period, El Paso scored a trio of goals within five minutes of each other. First, Tommy Shore scored at the 6:19 minute mark. Following him three minutes later was Troy Hunka, tallying his 27th of the season. Finally, Charles Turner found twine to give the Rhinos the 4-0 lead. As the game moved into the third period, Nayan Pai lit the lamp at the 5:21 minute mark for the Ice Wolves to break their scoring deadlock. Between the pipes for the Rhinos, Michael Modelski turned aside 34 out of 35 shots on net to give his team the win.

Kenai River 1 @ Anchorage 5 - Continuing their battle for the Alaska Airlines Club 49 Cup, the Anchorage Wolverines featured a big four-goal first period against the Kenai River Brown Bears. The contest kicked off with Caleb Mahar finding twine 40 seconds into the contest. Six minutes later, Luc Bydal scores his 39th of the season to give his team a 2-0 lead. Minutes later in the opening frame, Leon Buzek scores an unassisted tally, extending the Wolverines' lead. Rounding out scoring the final goal in the first period was Luc Bydal again, this time on the power play. The second period featured both teams exchanging chances; however, no one found twine. As the matchup moved into the final 20 minutes of regulation, the Wolverines would add to their lead with a power-play tally by Alaskan native, Aiden Lawson. With 5:42 left on the clock, the Brown Bears score their first of the night, thanks to a goal by Joe Gillespie. The Wolverines skated away with a 5-1 victory and a weekend sweep over the Brown Bears. Between the pipes, Kai Weigel stopped 25 out of 26 shots on net.

Janesville 3 @ Fairbanks 1 - With a desire to produce a victory during their Alaska road trip, the Janesville Jets head into Saturday night hungry. The contest kicked off with the Ice Dogs striking first with Sami Johnson finding twine. Later in the frame, Janesville’s captain, Joseph Hyten, scores on the man advantage to even the scoreboard heading into the second period. The middle frame was scoreless as both teams traded chances. As the contest was tied heading into the final period, both teams were looking to strike. Midway through the third frame, Janesville’s Connor Hillig scores to give the Jets the lead. Hillig would add to the scoreboard with an empty-netter tally with 14 seconds left in the contest. Between the pipes, Kaenan Smith turned aside 28 out of 29 shots on net, lifting his team to a victory.
