Friday Finals: Danbury Snaps 16-Game Win Streak and Punches Ticket to Playoffs

Maine 2 @ Northeast 3 - The Northeast Generals earned a key East Division victory over the Maine Nordiques at Canton Ice Arena, using a strong second period and solid goaltending to secure the 3 to 2 win. With both teams battling near the top half of the East Division standings, the win provided an important boost for the Generals as the regular season winds down. Maine opened the scoring in the first period while shorthanded. Rylan Oster capitalized on an opportunity and buried a shorthanded goal, assisted by Jack O’Brien, giving the Nordiques an early 1 to 0 lead. The Generals pushed back for the remainder of the period, but Maine held onto the one-goal advantage heading into the first intermission. The second period featured all of the remaining offense in the game. Northeast tied things up when Kody Moyer found the back of the net, assisted by Rich Rucireto and Logan Poulin, making it 1 to 1. Maine answered shortly after, as Michael Sandruck restored the Nordiques' lead with a goal assisted by Damon Myers to make it 2 to 1. The Generals responded once again, with Kody Moyer scoring his second goal of the game on the power play. Andrew Gibbons and Rich Rucireto picked up the assists, tying the game at 2 to 2. Momentum continued to swing toward Northeast late in the period when Mikey Bartkowski delivered the eventual game-winning goal shorthanded, assisted by Braydon Hudtloff and Robert Savaglio, giving the Generals a 3 to 2 lead heading into the final period. The third period saw both teams tighten defensively as Maine pushed for the equalizer. However, the Generals held strong defensively and limited quality chances throughout the period. Will Mizenko was solid in the net for Northeast, stopping 22 of 24 shots to earn the win and help secure the important East Division victory. With the win, the Northeast Generals gain valuable ground in the standings, while the Maine Nordiques look to regroup as both teams continue their push toward playoff positioning.

New Jersey 3 @ New Hampshire 2 (OT) - The New Jersey Titans earned a hard-fought overtime victory over the New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings at Delta Dental Arena, picking up an important East Division win in a tightly contested matchup. With both teams battling for playoff positioning, the Titans relied on timely scoring and strong goaltending to secure the 3 to 2 overtime win. New Jersey opened the scoring in the first period when Arseniy Zharkikov found the back of the net, assisted by Eduard Gubeladze and Lachlan Haeger, giving the Titans an early 1 to 0 lead. New Hampshire answered later in the period on the power play, as Alex Gelhar capitalized with a man-advantage goal assisted by Joey Sylvester and Van Martin, tying the game at 1 to 1 heading into the first intermission. The Titans regained the lead in the second period when Matt Hanscom scored off a setup from Jonathan Lanza and Joe Pocrnic. The goal gave New Jersey a 2 to 1 advantage and momentum heading into the final frame. New Hampshire pushed back in the third period, as Van Martin tied the game at 2 to 2. Martin finished a play assisted by Ronnie Hill and Alex Gelhar, forcing overtime after both teams battled through a tight defensive third period. In overtime, the Titans found their game-winner when Arseni Vorobyov buried the deciding goal, sealing the 3 to 2 victory for New Jersey. Andrew Bely delivered a strong performance between the pipes for the Titans, stopping 28 of 30 shots to earn the overtime win. With the victory, the New Jersey Titans gained valuable ground in the East Division standings, while the New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings picked up a point but fell just short in the extra frame as both teams continue their push toward playoff positioning.

Rochester 3 @ Elmira 4 - The Elmira Aviators earned a hard-fought East Division victory over the Rochester Jr. Americans at LeCom Events Center, using timely third-period scoring to secure the 4 to 3 win. With Rochester battling near the top of the division standings, Elmira picked up an important victory against a strong opponent. Rochester opened the scoring in the first period when Ryan Flaherty found the back of the net, assisted by Yianni Koukouves, giving the Jr. Americans an early 1 to 0 lead. Elmira answered later in the period, as Max Campbell tied the game with a goal assisted by Jake Baratta and Corson Maguire, sending the teams into the first intermission tied 1 to 1. Elmira took their first lead of the night in the second period when Kevin Delaney scored, finishing a play from Jake Baratta and Max Campbell to give the Aviators a 2 to 1 advantage heading into the final period. The third period featured a flurry of offense from both teams. Elmira extended their lead early when Evan Dantas scored on the power play, assisted by Ilya Baldin, making it 3 to 1. Rochester responded quickly, as Maxim St. Pierre cut the deficit to one with a goal assisted by Brendan Giles. Shortly after, Ryan Shaw netted his 38th goal of the season, once again assisted by Brendan Giles, tying the game at 3 to 3. However, Elmira answered late in the period when Brenden Bedorf scored the eventual game-winning goal, assisted by Max Campbell and Jake Baratta, restoring the Aviators' lead at 4 to 3. Aiden McKenna delivered a solid performance in net for Elmira, stopping 30 of 33 shots to earn the victory. With the win, the Elmira Aviators gain valuable ground in the East Division standings, while the Rochester Jr. Americans fall just short despite a strong third-period push.

Maryland 1 @ Danbury 4 - The Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks delivered a strong defensive performance at Danbury Ice Arena, defeating the East Division-leading Maryland Black Bears 4 to 1. Despite being outshot heavily, Danbury capitalized on their opportunities and received outstanding goaltending to secure the upset victory. The first period saw no scoring, but Maryland controlled much of the play, firing 15 shots on goal compared to just 4 from Danbury. However, the Jr. Hat Tricks weathered the pressure and kept the game scoreless heading into the first intermission. Danbury broke through in the second period when Luke Vanderroest opened the scoring, finishing a play assisted by Matt Dabrowski to give the Jr. Hat Tricks a 1 to 0 lead. The momentum continued shortly after, as Kai Elkie extended the lead with a goal assisted by Matt Judge, making it 2 to 0. Danbury kept the pressure on midway through the period when Lukas Zimovcak added another goal, assisted by Tanner Terranova and Gavin O’Hara, pushing the lead to 3 to 0. Maryland finally responded late in the second period when Ryan Franks got the Black Bears on the board, finishing a play from Anthony Pellitteri and Brayden Wade to cut the deficit to 3 to 1 heading into the third period. The third period featured strong defensive play from Danbury as they protected their lead while Maryland pushed offensively. With Maryland pulling the goalie late, Peter Freel sealed the victory with an empty-net goal to make it 4 to 1. Jon Dukaric was outstanding in net for Danbury, stopping 35 of 36 shots to earn the win and backstop the Jr. Hat Tricks to the impressive East Division victory. With the win, Danbury picks up valuable points against the division-leading Maryland Black Bears, while Maryland will look to bounce back after running into a hot goaltender at Danbury Ice Arena.

Philadelphia 6 @ Johnstown 2 - Philadelphia used a dominant second period to power past Johnstown 6-2. The Rebels scored three times in the middle frame and never looked back. Billy Sheridan and Emmet McClaine each contributed key goals in the win. Johnstown had moments early, but could not keep pace offensively. Philadelphia finished with a convincing performance on both ends.

Corpus Christi 2 @ Oklahoma 4 - Oklahoma pulled away with a four-goal effort to defeat Corpus Christi 4-2. Alexander Duhon led the way with two goals, including a late empty-netter to seal it. The Warriors took control in the second period and carried that momentum into the third. Corpus Christi stayed within reach but could not close the gap. Strong goaltending and balanced scoring helped Oklahoma secure the win.

Watertown 4 @ Minnesota M 3 - Watertown built an early lead with three first-period goals and held on for a 4-3 win. Minnesota pushed back with two goals in the opening frame and another in the second, but could not complete the comeback. Andrew Smulskys scored the eventual game-winner in the second period. The Mallards outshot Watertown but could not capitalize enough. The Shamrocks relied on timely scoring and held firm in the third.

Minnesota W 5 @ Janesville 3 - The Janesville Jets opened the scoring midway through the first period when Grant Dillard worked the puck to Nathan Tobey at the point. Tobey sent it across the blue line to Joseph Hyten, who fired a shot through traffic that found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The Minnesota Wilderness responded early in the second period as Talan Blanck scored with assists from Noah Dziver and Zachary Homer to tie the game 1-1. Minnesota carried the momentum, taking a 2-1 lead when Dziver sent a cross-ice pass to Blanck, whose shot created a rebound that Homer finished. The Wilderness extended their lead later in the period as Dziver scored off assists from Matt Hauser and Olle Karlsson, making it 3-1 heading into the third. Janesville cut into the deficit early in the third period when Dillard scored, assisted by Hans Hedlund and Jonathan Lyskawa, to make it 3-2. Minnesota answered back as Dziver added his second goal of the game with help from Homer and Blanck, pushing the lead to 4-2. The teams continued to trade goals, with Hyten scoring his second of the night off assists from Tobey and Dillard to bring the Jets within one. However, the Wilderness sealed the game in the final minutes as Robinson Djian scored, assisted by Homer and Jack Martens, for a 5-3 final. In the goal, Ryan Gerlich made 27 saves for Minnesota in the win. Kaenan Smith stopped 22 shots for Janesville in the loss.

Chippewa 1 @ Springfield 4 - The Springfield Jr. Blues opened the scoring midway through the first period when Logan Sutton drove down the boards, beat a defender, and found Brady Turner, who buried the pass to make it 1-0. In the final moments of the period, the Jr. Blues added another as James Marshall tapped one in off an assist from Mason Benedict, sending Springfield into the second period with a 2-0 lead. The Chippewa Steel answered early in the second period when Tom Manzella scored on a 2-on-1 rush with Nate Hart to cut the deficit to 2-1. Springfield responded later in the period as Zach Howard found the back of the net off a setup from Theodor Boden, extending the lead to 3-1. In the third period, the Jr. Blues added insurance when Brayden Sprickman converted a one-timer off passes from Lukas Wallinheimo and Owen Lowe, sealing a 4-1 victory. In goal, Zach Stahl made 27 saves for Chippewa in the loss. Aaron Sachs recorded 20 saves for Springfield to earn the win.

Bismarck 0 @ Austin 2 - Austin earned a 2-0 shutout win behind a strong performance from Jack Solomon, who stopped all 30 shots he faced. Michael Coleman opened the scoring in the second period, and Gavin Hruza added an insurance goal early in the third. Bismarck generated chances with 30 shots but could not solve Solomon. The Bruins stayed disciplined and controlled key moments late. Austin picked up a steady win to continue its strong season.

St. Cloud 0 @ North Iowa 5 - The North Iowa Bulls opened the scoring midway through the first period when Denis Hodas controlled the puck at the point and sent a pass across the blue line to Brody Dietz. Dietz fired a shot on net that Michael Malatino tipped in to make it 1-0. Malatino struck again later in the period, finishing a play set up by Drake Maresca and Ethan McKay to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead heading into the second. North Iowa carried its momentum into the second period as Malatino completed a hat trick, scoring on a rebound generated by Ivan Berčík and Carter Davis to extend the lead to 3-0. He added his fourth goal of the game shortly after, with assists from Hodas and Dietz, pushing the advantage to 4-0. The Bulls continued to roll as Vitaliy Korolyuk found the back of the net off a setup from Malatino and McKay, making it 5-0. The St. Cloud Norsemen and Bulls played a fast-paced third period, but neither side found the back of the net. In goal, St. Cloud recorded 21 saves in the loss. Aaron Sachs turned aside 26 shots for North Iowa to secure the shutout victory.

El Paso 3 @ Shreveport 1 - The opening period featured fast-paced, back-and-forth action, but neither team capitalized as both defenses held strong in a scoreless frame. The El Paso Rhinos broke through in the second period when Ethan Woolcott collected the puck behind the net and passed to Troy Hunka, who quickly moved it to Jacob Solano. Solano found the back of the net to give the Rhinos a 1-0 lead. El Paso extended its advantage later in the period as Gaige Giblin scored off an assist from Aidan Bergner, sending the Rhinos into the third period ahead 2-0. The Shreveport Mudbugs answered in the third period when William-Alexis Tremblay scored with help from Grayson Gerhard to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Mudbugs pressed late, but the Rhinos secured the win in the final minute as Tommy Shore added an empty-net goal for a 3-1 final. In net, Tyler Hodges made 17 saves for Shreveport. Michael Modelski stopped 27 shots for El Paso to earn the win.

New Mexico 5 @ Odessa 3 - The New Mexico Ice Wolves earned a 5-3 win on the road against the Odessa Jackalopes. The Ice Wolves played a fiery game, tallying 17 shots on goal in just the first period. New Mexico outshot their opponent 43-28 by the end of the match. The Jackalopes scored first when Caden Ghiossi turned an early power play into an early lead. The Ice Wolves responded with their own power-play goal late in the period, scored by Brock Fairbanks. Caden Ghiossi tallied a second goal for Odessa to start the middle frame, slipping the puck past Ice Wolves' goaltender off the stick of Luke McPherson. Nayan Pai evened the score for the Ice Wolves before a goal from Noah Teng would give New Mexico a 3-2 lead. However, Odessa's Henry Thornton would tie the match back up to finish off the second. Stanley Hubbard, assisted by Teng, scored a short-handed goal on the Ice Wolves' single third-period penalty kill. Brendan Schooley would finish the match with some extra insurance for New Mexico, scoring on an empty Jackalopes' net. Gavin Schahn was in net for the Ice Wolves, earning his fourth win of the season.

Amarillo 1 @ Lone Star 2 - The Lone Star Brahmas hosted the Amarillo Wranglers on Friday night. The Wranglers held their own against the South Division leaders, playing a close match. Shots on goal for both teams were tied at 23. The Wranglers’ offensive efforts peaked in the first period with 13 shots in the period. However, it was the Brahmas who scored first. Leo Isaksson netted the lone power-play goal of the match, assisted by Gustav Lexell and Maddox Tulacro. More action followed in the middle frame, and Christian Venticinque extended Lone Star's lead further. Jackson Nesheim scored his second goal of the season late in the period, earning the Wranglers’ lone tally. Nesheim was assisted by Danylo Dolin and Frenk Kolgushkin. While the final period offered power-play chances for both teams, neither found the back of the net a final time. Brahmas' goaltender Brady Krey earned the first star of the night. Krey turned away 22 shots, finishing with a .957 save percentage. This is Krey's ninth win of 14 games played with the Brahmas this season. 

Aberdeen 2 @ Minot 3 - The Minot Minotauros scored a 3-2 win against the Aberdeen Wings, who recently clinched their playoff spot for the ninth consecutive year last month. It was a close match between the Central Division teams. Minot scored first, Mackley Morelli netted an early goal off the sticks of Jachym Prusek and Will Nolan. The Tauros carried that 1-0 lead into the second before David Hruby responded for the Wings. Lucas Schaefer added another for the Wings just seconds later, putting Aberdeen ahead at the end of the second. Minot's Ty James then scored a power-play goal in the third to return the favor to the Tauros. Dane Ramirez netted the game winner, assisted by James and Briggs Knott, with less than two minutes on the clock while his team was short-handed. Chase Anderson was between the pipes for Minot, making 23 stops to earn the Tauros a win.

Wisconsin 3 @ Fairbanks 1 - In a race for Midwest Division playoff positioning, the Wisconsin Windigo continued their Alaska road trip, this time against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. The contest kicked off with neither team finding twine in the opening frame, Fairbanks outshotting Wisconsin 9 to 8. Moving into the second frame, the Ice Dogs would strike first with a power-play tally by Clarke Nehmens. With a one-goal advantage heading into the third period, the Ice Dogs were looking to capitalize, however, the Windigo produced a trio of goals in the final 20 minutes of regulation. First, Jackson Ernst finds twine four minutes into the frame, to even the scoreboard. Following him midway through the frame was Aidan Hickok, giving Wisconsin their first lead of the night with his tally. In the final few minutes of the game, Fairbanks looked to even the score. They pull their netminder, Miles Roberts, to give themselves the man advantage on the ice. However, Wisconsin scored with 90 seconds left in regulation thanks to an empty-netter by Joshua Sardo. The Windigo skated away with a 3-1 victory and a strong campaign for the number two seed in the Midwest Division.

Anchorage 1 @ Kenai River 4 - Heading into this contest, Anchorage was riding a heater, while Kenai River was looking to turn around its losing ways. The game kicked off with Kenai River lighting the lamp first early in the opening frame. Kallen Ray scores his fifth of the season with the Brown Bears, giving his team a one-goal advantage heading into the second period. The middle frame featured the Wolverines striking back. Caleb Mahar scored shorthanded for Anchorage, making the contest even on the scoreboard. Moving into the final period, the two Alaskan teams were tied for most of the contest. It was not until the final five minutes of the game that the Brown Bears would secure their victory. First, Braden Hansberger scores his ninth of the season to give Kenai River their second lead of the night. 30 seconds later, Joe Gillespie adds to the Brown Bears’ lead in the final moments of the game. The final strike would come in empty-netter fashion by Samuel Sisik.  Kenai River would skate away with a big 4-1 victory on home ice. Between the pipes, Devin Rustlie turned aside 18 out of 19 shots on net for the Brown Bears.
