El Paso Forward Hunka makes NCAA DI Commitment
The El Paso Rhinos of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Troy Hunka has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Robert Morris University in the Atlantic.
The ‘06 skater exploding on the scoresheet night after night, Hunka has secured a commitment to Robert Morris University thanks to his work on the ice. Hunka is a first-year forward in the NAHL. The 5-foot-11 righty has been a key piece of El Paso’s success this season. He leads his team with 85 points and 57 assists, while ranking second overall with 28 goals during the regular season. Out of 58 regular-season games with the Rhinos, he has shown up on the scoresheet in 45 of them. In that span, Hunka featured 26 multi-point contests. His ability to produce points all season long ranks him third in the NAHL with his 85 regular-season points. His work on the ice earned him distinction as a South Division Star of the Week on two separate occasions. His first honor was following the NAHL Showcase in September, where he secured a six-point weekend with El Paso. His second honor comes on November 24, 2025. Hunka spotlighted a five-point weekend, tallying two goals and three assists.
His play-making and scoring ability were reasons why Hunka was selected as a Top Prospect at the 2026 Top Prospects Tournament at the USA Hockey Arena. Hunka was a member of the Selects White roster, one of the two teams that defeated the U.S. National Team Development Program at the annual event.
In the playoffs so far, Hunka has scored seven points in the three games played. The Rhinos faced and defeated the Oklahoma Warriors during the Play-In Series. In the first round of play, the 5-foot-11 skater tallied three goals while making four assists for the Rhinos.
The Rhinos acquired Hunka this past summer through the 2025 NAHL Entry Draft. The ‘06 skater was selected in the second round, 35th overall, by the Rhinos.
The North Canton, Ohio, native shared his excitement on social media for his commitment to the Colonials.
“I am proud to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Robert Morris University! Big thanks to my family and everyone who helped along the way.”
Head coach of the Rhinos, Mike Rivera, went into detail on how Hunka has been an impact player all season long.
“We are very proud of Hunka for his well-earned commitment to Robert Morris University. The points speak for themselves regarding his offensive abilities. However, he really earned his commitment by being a 200-foot impact player, used in all situations, every night. His growth as a complete player over the course of this season has been impressive to watch, and we look forward to watching this translate at the NCAA Division I level.”
Hunka is one of six members of the El Paso Rhinos to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
