Corpus Christi Alternate Captain Troutwine makes NCAA Commitment

April 27, 2026

The Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Sam Troutwine has committed to play NCAA hockey for Skidmore College in the SUNYAC.

The 6-foot-4 blueliner from the State of Hockey has secured a commitment to play hockey for Skidmore College in the fall. Troutwine played in the League of Opportunity for the past three seasons, spending most of his time skating for the IceRays in the South Division. The ‘06 skater started his junior career with Corpus Christi in a 10-game stint during the 2023-24 season. The Minnesota native recorded his first junior point with an assist in the span. Moving into his first full season of junior hockey, the 19-year-old played 28 games with the South Division team, producing nine assists from the blue line. He was then acquired by the Minnesota Wilderness in February and played in nine games with the Midwest Division club. Troutwine recorded an assist with the Wilderness.

Moving into his second full season of junior hockey, the Everleth, Minnesota, native laced up in 55 regular season games for the IceRays. The ‘06 blueliner showed up big on the scoresheet, scoring seven goals while making 15 assists. Troutwine featured two game-winning goals in that span. Moving into the postseason, the 6-foot-4 skater found twine once in the two playoff games.

Troutwine is one of three brothers who have played in the League of Opportunity. His oldest brother, Nick Troutwine, had a two-year career in the NAHL and currently plays at Skidmore College. His other older brother, Will Troutwine, played three seasons with the Janesville Jets and is currently at the College of the Holy Cross.

Ryan Gil from the IceRays shares how important Troutwine’s presence was for Corpus Christi this season.

“Sam has been an important part of our group, both on and off the ice. Reaching 100 games in this league is no small feat, and his development this season speaks volumes about the work he’s put in. We’re excited to see him continue his career at Skidmore.”

Troutwine is one of four members of the Corpus Christi IceRays to make a college ice hockey commitment.
