Philadelphia Alternate Captain Bunting makes NCAA Commitment
The Philadelphia Rebels of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Ryan Bunting has committed to play NCAA hockey for Utica University in the UCHC.
The 5-foot-10 skater from West Deptford, New Jersey, Bunting will head to Utica, New York, to skate with the Pioneers in the fall. Bunting is a third-year veteran of the Rebels, skating in 146 games with the East Division team. This season, the 21-year-old played in 29 games with Philadelphia, tallying 10 goals and nine assists. Three of his goals were scored on the man advantage, while one goal was notched short-handed. His work on the ice earned him the honor of being a Top Prospect for the 2026 Top Prospects Tournament on the East Division team.
Bunting went into detail on what it means to have played with the Rebels the past three seasons and what he looks forward to while playing college hockey.
“I’m beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to represent the Rebels and Hollydell for the past three years of my life. I have grown a lot both as a player and as a person, and I am very appreciative of everyone involved in the process. Super excited to spend my next four years as a Pioneer.”
During his 2024-25 campaign, the alternate captain played in every regular season game for the Rebels. He registered 20 goals and 20 assists in his second season. He recorded his first and second game-winning goals during the 2024-25 season and featured five power-play goals.
His rookie season spotlighted the Garden State skater playing in 54 games for the Rebels. He scored eight goals and made 16 assists in that span. In addition, he featured two power-play goals.
Head coach of the Rebels, Justin Hale, shares more on the impact Bunting has had on the team.
“Ryan has been a cornerstone of our program for the past three seasons. His growth as a player and person has been awesome to watch. His work ethic, character, and commitment to our team make this college opportunity well-deserved. We’re proud of him and excited to see what he accomplishes at the next level.”
Bunting is one of 10 members of the Philadelphia Rebels to make a college ice hockey commitment.
