Maryland Alternate Captain Duncan makes NCAA DI Commitment

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Tanner Duncan has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Stonehill College.

The 5-foot-11 forward from Ridgefield, Connecticut, Duncan will skate with the Skyhawks in the fall. The second-year veteran is one of the top skaters on his team and in the league. In his age-out season, he scored 28 goals and registered 47 assists in 54 games played, ranking second on his team in both categories. Duncan is tied seventh overall during the regular season with 75 points. He led the Black Bears with 10 power-play tallies and seven game-winning goals while featuring a +39 rating on the ice in the regular season.

His work in the regular season earned him the honor of being named a Top Prospect at the 2026 Top Prospect Tournament. He skated for the East Division team at the annual event. In addition, Duncan has been recognized with other awards during his 2025-26 campaign. He was named to the All-East Division Team and as an East Division Star of the Week on October 27, 2025.

His production night after night for the Black Bears was a highlight of his regular season performance. Out of his 54 games played, there were only nine games in which Duncan did not show up on the scoresheet. Six of those no-point games came in the first eight contests of the season. Duncan quickly became a very steady offensive force for the Black Bears. What is most impressive is that the ‘05 skater rode a 31-game point streak from November 21, 2025, to March 21, 2026.

Duncan carried his offensive prowess into the postseason with Maryland. He registered a little over two points per game, featuring a 21-point postseason performance. Duncan tallied six goals while securing 15 assists for his team. Out of the 10 postseason games, the alternate captain registered seven multi-point contests. His work on the ice helped to lift the Black Bears to their first Robertson Cup trophy as an organization.

Duncan shared his excitement about heading to Stonehill College on social media.

“I am proud to announce my commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey and further my education at Stonehill College. I’d like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, advisors and everyone who helped me along the way. I am grateful and excited for this opportunity and the future.”

The 20-year-old is not the only Black Bear heading to Stonehill College in the fall. Duncan will join his teammate, Owen Drury. The Connecticut native began his junior career during the 2024-25 season. He played in 45 games for Maryland, scoring 14 goals while making 12 assists in his debut year.

Duncan is one of 10 members of the Maryland Black Bears to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
