New Mexico Alternate Captain Smith makes NCAA Commitment

The New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Sean Smith has committed to play NCAA hockey for the University of New England in the CNE.

The 6-foot-2 blueliner from Canton, Michigan, Smith will join the Nor'easters in Maine. Smith is a second-year veteran of the Ice Wolves, skating in 125 games. This past season, he laced up in 57 regular season games, recording 41 points. He led defensemen on his roster with 10 goals, 31 assists, and ultimately 41 points. One of his tallies was scored in game-winning fashion, while three goals were scored on the man advantage. His ability from the blue line translated into the Ice Wolves’ postseason run. In his three playoff games, the ‘05 skater scored two goals and made an assist. His work on the ice earned him a spot at the annual Top Prospects Tournament. Smith returned to his home state and played with the South Division team against the best uncommitted athletes the NAHL has to offer.

In Smith’s NAHL debut season, the 6-foot-2 lefty laced up in 65 games for the Ice Wolves. He registered 17 points in that span, finding twine twice and notching 15 assists for the New Mexico program. One of his tallies was scored in game-winning fashion for the team.

In Smith’s NAHL career, he produced 61 points in 125 games played. He scored 14 career goals and made 47 career assists with the Ice Wolves.

Smith is one of 14 members of the New Mexico Ice Wolves to make a college ice hockey commitment.
