The Anchorage Wolverines of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that goaltender Kai Weigel has committed to play NCAA hockey for Salve Regina University.

The 5-foot-11 netminder from Bismarck, North Dakota, Weigel will join the Seahawks in Rhode Island in the fall. Weigel is a second-year veteran of the NAHL, playing most of his games in the Midwest Division with the Anchorage Wolverines this season. The ‘05 netminder recorded 21 wins in his 34 regular season games with the Wolverines. He spotlighted a .910 save percentage and notched a 2.97 goals-against average. With Anchorage, Weigel recorded his first shutout in his junior career and scored a 200-foot goalie goal during the month of January. His shutout came in a 29-save performance against the Wolverines' in-state rival, the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. His goalie goal was also scored against the Ice Dogs in the final minute of a one-goal game.

Before Weigel was acquired by the Wolverines, he played for his hometown team, the Bismarck Bobcats. He started his year in the Central Division, playing in net for the Bobcats in eight games. Weigel recorded five wins in that span for Bismarck.

In his rookie season, the ‘05 netminder played between the pipes in 22 contests for the Bobcats. He secured a .909 save percentage and recorded a 1.80 goals-against average in his first full season in the League of Opportunity. Weigel played a role in helping lift the Bobcats to a Robertson Cup Championship for the 2024-25 season.

The 5-foot-11 goaltender got his first taste of the NAHL with a one-game appearance in the 2023-24 season. He turned aside 28 out of 29 shots for the Bobcats.

This season, Weigel earned distinction this season with a Midwest Division Star of the Week on March 16, 2026, for his work in net for the Wolverines.

Weigel is one of 10 members of the Anchorage Wolverines to make a college ice hockey commitment.
