Johnstown Forward Metelkin makes NCAA Commitment

The Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Nick Metelkin has committed to play NCAA hockey for Norwich University in the Little East.

The 6-foot-1 lefty from the Keystone State, Metelkin, will join one of the oldest college hockey programs in the country this fall. Metelkin is a third-year veteran of the NAHL, skating 90 games in the League of Opportunity. The ‘05 forward played in 34 games for the Tomahawks this past season, registering 21 points for the team. He scored seven goals while making 14 assists in his age-out season. Two of his tallies were scored in deciding fashion while four were notched on the power play.

His work on the ice earned him a spot as a Top Prospect at the annual Top Prospects Tournament. Metelkin scored a goal during the two-day event for the East Division team.

Prior to joining Johnstown, Metelkin laced up in the South Division for the Odessa Jackalopes over two seasons. During his 2024-25 campaign, the 6-foot-1 left-hand shot played 32 games, sporting 29 points for the Texas-based team. Metelkin lit the lamp 11 times and recorded 18 assists for Odessa. The Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, native was effective on the power play, scoring five goals on the man advantage.

In the 20-year-old’s debut season, Metelkin laced up in 24 games with the Jackalopes. The ‘05 forward notched nine points, recording five goals and four assists. He scored one tally in game-winning fashion and notched his first and only short-handed goal in his NAHL career.

In his 90 career games played, Metelkin features 60 points over the three seasons. He scored 24 goals and made 36 assists during his time in the League of Opportunity.

The Pennsylvania skater will join the Cadets in Northfield, Vermont. Norwich University is a powerhouse in college hockey, winning four national championship titles. The Cadets have continued to be a team that makes postseason runs. The team has made 11 appearances in the NCAA tournament since 2010.

Metelkin is one of nine members of the Johnstown Tomahawks to make a college ice hockey commitment.
