Lone Star Alternate Captain Coots makes NCAA Commitment

July 20, 2026

The Lone Star Brahamas of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Ryan Coots has committed to play NCAA hockey for Nichols College in the CNE.

The ‘05 blueliner from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Coots will head to Dudley, Massachusetts, to skate with the Bisons in the fall. The 6-foot-2 defenseman kicked off his age-out season with a bang and earned a Defenseman of the Month honor during the month of September. Coots had an eight-point month, scoring two goals while notching five assists for the South Division team. His work from the blue line continued throughout the first half of the 2025-26 season, serving as a key piece of the Brahmas. In his 24 games played, the 21-year-old scored two goals and made nine assists for the South Division team. One of his two tallies was scored on the man advantage.

Coots is one of 13 members of the Lone Star Brahmas to make a college ice hockey commitment.
