Chippewa Forward Johnson Makes NCAA Commitment

The Chippewa Steel of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Mason Johnson has committed to play NCAA hockey for Lawrence University in the NCHA.

The 5-foot-9 lefty from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Johnson will stay in his home state to skate with the Vikings in the fall. Johnson is a second-year veteran of the Steel, skating over 100 games with the Midwest Division team. This past season, the ‘06 forward played every regular season contest, lacing up in 59 games. He recorded a team-leading 13 goals and 27 points, while ranking second on the team with 14 assists. In addition, three of his tallies on the year were scored on the man advantage.

During the 2024-25 season, the local player hit the ice in 52 games for the Steel. He featured 10 points on the season, finding twine four times while producing six assists for the Wisconsin-based team. In his rookie season, Johnson scored two game-winning goals for the team.

Johnson is one of five members of the Chippewa Steel to make a college ice hockey commitment.
