El Paso Defenseman Stephen makes NCAA Commitment

The El Paso Rhinos of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman Alexander Stephen has committed to play NCAA hockey for the Stevenson University in the MAC.

The 21-year-old blueliner from Brampton, Ontario, Stephen will head to Stevenson, Maryland, to skate with the Mustangs in the fall. Stephen is a first-year skater in the League of Opportunity, skating in 49 games. The ‘05 lefty started his year in the Central Division with the Bismarck Bobcats. He recorded two goals and two assists in six games played with the North Dakota-based team. From his time in Bismarck, he featured a +3 rating on the ice.

Following a few weeks with the Bobcats, Stephen was acquired by the El Paso Rhinos in November. The 6-foot-2 skater played in 34 regular season games for the South Division team, registering 11 points for the Rhinos. He tallied two goals and produced nine assists. One of his tallies was scored in game-winning fashion, while one was notched on the penalty kill.

In the postseason, Stephen exploded on the scoresheet, spotlighting six points in nine games played. He tallied three goals and three assists for the team in the Sun City. Just like the regular season, one of his goals was scored in game-winning fashion for the Rhinos.

Stephen is one of eight members of the El Paso Rhinos to make a college ice hockey commitment.
