Amarillo Forward Hegarty makes NCAA Commitment

The Amarillo Wranglers of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Caden Hegarty has committed to play NCAA hockey for Amherst College in the NESCAC.

The 21-year-old from Rosemount, Minnesota, Hegarty will skate with the Mammoths in the fall. Hegarty is a first-year skater in the League of Opportunity, spending most of his NAHL playing career with the Wranglers. The ‘05 forward recorded a team-leading 20 goals, while ranking second with 27 assists. His 47 points on the year place him second in offensive scoring for the Texas-based team. Hegarty was effective on the man advantage, registering a team-leading four power-play goals. Additionally, the State of Hockey skater notched two game-winning goals for Amarillo and featured a +6 rating on the season.

His work on the ice earned him a spot at the annual Top Prospects Tournament. The 6-foot-4 forward was named to the South Division team. While at the USA Hockey Arena, Hegarty scored a goal and registered an assist during the two-day tournament.

The ‘05 skater got his first taste of the League of Opportunity with the Aberdeen Wings at the start of the 2025-26 season. He played in three regular season games for the Central Division team before being acquired by the Wranglers.

Hegarty is one of seven members of the Amarillo Wranglers to make a college ice hockey commitment this season.
