NAHL Alumnus, Sutter Muzzatti, Signs NHL Contract with the Detroit Red Wings

August 21, 2026

The Detroit Red Wings announced that former Austin Bruins forward, Sutter Muzzatti, has signed a two-year, entry-level NHL contract beginning with the 2026-27 season following the Red Wings acquiring Muzzatti from the Nashville Predators.

Muzzatti spent two seasons with the Austin Bruins, skating with the team from 2020-22. The Michigan native played in 30 contests with the Central Division club in the 2020-21 season, recording 13 points with the Minnesota-based team. Muzzatti tallied five goals and recorded eight assists with the Bruins. In his rookie season with Austin, the ‘03 skater earned a Division I college commitment to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and would join the college program following his time in the NAHL.

In his second season with Austin, the 6-foot-6 forward exploded on the scoresheet and recorded a team-leading 46 points. Muzzatti tallied 12 goals and produced a Bruins-leading 34 points in his second year with the club. In addition to his offensive performance during his 2021-22 campaign, the former Bruin recorded an assist in his three postseason contests.

Muzzatti would go on to skate with the Engineers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for three seasons, lacing up in 78 contests for the Division I program. The ‘03 forward registered 19 goals and recorded 31 assists over the course of the three seasons. In his freshman and sophomore seasons, Muzzatti ranked as one of the top offensive skaters for the team, sitting tied for first overall during his 2022-23 season with 22 points and second overall during the 2023-24 season with 25 points.

After spending three years with the Engineers, Muzzatti would transfer to the University of Notre Dame for his senior year of college hockey. The 6-foot-6 forward was again one of the top scorers, this time for the Fighting Irish. Muzzatti sat second overall on the team with 13 goals, 19 assists and 32 points during his 2025-26 campaign.

The former Bruin was taken in the 2023 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round, 143rd overall, following his freshman season with RPI.

Before Muzzatti became a Bruin, the Michigan native spent two seasons in the NAPHL with the Meijer AAA hockey organization (which is now known as Biggby Coffee). The Michigan native led his 16U team in scoring with 26 points during his 2019-20 campaign. Muzzatti tallied 10 goals and recorded 16 assists.

In addition to his time playing on the 16U roster, Muzzatti also appeared in 20 games with the Meijer AAA 18U team. The 6-foot-6 forward logged 19 points in that span and helped the 18U team notch the NAPHL 18U Championship. Following his 2019-20 campaign, Muzzatti would sign a tender with the Austin Bruins and go on to skate with the Central Division team for his junior career.
