Maryland Defenseman Johnson makes NCAA Commitment

The Maryland Black Bears of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that defenseman, Daniel Johnson, has committed to play NCAA hockey for the University of New England in the CNE.

The 5-foot-10 lefty from Edgewood, Maryland, Johnson will join the Nor’Easters at the University of New England in the fall. Johnson is a veteran of the NAHL, skating in the League of Opportunity over the course of three seasons. This past year, Johnson laced up in 45 regular season contests for the Black Bears. The ‘05 skater recorded 24 points, tallying two goals and 22 assists with the East Division club. Johnson spotlighted a +25 rating on the ice.

In the postseason, the blueliner registered four points in his 10 games played. He lit the lamp once and logged three assists for the Black Bears. Thanks to his work on the ice, he helped to lift the Black Bears to the Robertson Cup title.

In addition to winning the championship title, Johnson was named a Top Prospect for the annual Top Prospects Tournament. He played for the East Division team and scored the game-winning goal for the divisional roster.

Prior to joining the Maryland-based team, Johnson laced up with the Bismarck Bobcats over the course of two seasons. In the 2024-25 campaign, he played in two games for the Central Division club. Before that, Johnson appeared on the ice in 18 contests for the Bobcats. He recorded two assists in his debut year.

Johnson is one of 14 members of the Maryland Black Bears to make a college ice hockey commitment.
