Johnstown forward Black makes NCAA DI commitment

The Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that rookie forward Jake Black has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Connecticut in Hockey East.
Black, 19, is currently leading the Tomahawks in scoring during the 2021-22 season. So far in 15 games played, the 5’11/175 lbs. native of Pomfret, CT, has recorded 20 points, which includes 12 goals and 8 assists.
“Jake has been a huge part of our team this season and has emerged as a dangerous offensive force within the league,” said Head Coach Mike Letizia on Black’s commitment to join the Huskies. “His play has demonstrated that he is deserving of the opportunity to play at the next level and I am so proud of him on his commitment to UConn. Additionally, the chance to play for his ‘hometown’ Division I program has to be a dream come true for him. Jake is a great kid and I couldn’t be happier for him and his family.”
Black was recently honored with East Division Star of the Week for the week of October 11-17 and has recorded at least a point in 13 of his 15 games played this season.
“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be a UConn Husky,” said Black. “Growing up in Connecticut, it is a great honor that few kids have. I can’t wait to get to campus and be a part of something special that they keep building.”
