Saturday Scores: Ice Dogs sweep, while Bulls and Wildcats win

Fairbanks 7 @ Kenai River 3 – The Ice Dogs erased a 3-1 deficit and exploded for six goals in the 3rd period and got four point nights from Ryner Gorowsky, Todd Bugress and Logan Coomes as they completed a weekend sweep of the Kenai River Brown Bears with a 7-3 win. Things were tied after one period as Adam Kresl scored for Kenai River and Burgess answered for Fairbanks. The Brown Bears took a 3-1 lead in the 2nd period with goals from Jordan Hank and Joey Sardina. The 3rd period was all Fairbanks as goals from Aaron McPheters, Marshal Plunkett and Alex Mehnert in an 8-minute span put the Ice Dogs ahead for good. Burgess, Coomes and Austin Junger added three empty-net goals in the final two minutes. Andrew Lindgren picked up his second win of the season, making 27 saves. Odessa 3 @ Amarillo 6 – Despite being outshot 41-31, the Amarillo Bulls defeated the Odessa Jackalopes 6-3 on opening night in Amarillo for both teams. The Bulls wasted no time getting things goals as goals from George Mika and Joey Molinaro put them ahead 2-0 in the first four minutes. Odessa would answer on a goal from Gray Marr, but before the period was done Tyler Harkins scored to make it 3-1. Amarillo’s lead swelled to 4-1 early in the 2nd period on a goal from Zach Sarnowski. That spelled the end of the night for starting Jackalopes goalie Dean Shatzer, who was lifted in favor of Joe Morgan. The move sparked the Jackalopes into scoring two goals from Zach Main and Ryan MacKellar to make it a 4-3 game after two periods. In the 3rd period, the Bulls put the game away with Molinaro’s second goal of the game along with a goal from Johan Lundgren. Anton Martinsson made 38 saves in the win, while Shatzer and Morgan combined for 25 saves in the loss. Boxscore
 
Wichita Falls 6 @ Topeka 2 – Two goals from Jeff Baum and 24 saves from Justin Kapelmaster earned the Wildcats a 6-2 win and weekend split of their series in Topeka. The scoring got started early and often as the RoadRunners got 1st period goals from Max Harper and Carlos Fornaris, while Wichita Falls answered with goals from Baum and Nick Rosa to make it a 2- game just over halfway through the opening period. After that it was all Wildcats as two more 1st period goals from Austin Beaulieu and another from Baum, put the Wildcats ahead 4-2 after one period. In the second period, Adam Goodsir scored his second goal of the season to make it 5-2 and Andre Pison added a 3rd period tally to make the final 6-2. Kapelmaster won his NAHL debut, while Tyler Johnson took the loss in his NAHL debut for Topeka, making 25 saves. Boxsore
