The Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are pleased to announce that goaltender Nate Reid, who was the Fairbanks Ice Dogs’ starting goaltender early last season before being sidelined by an injury, has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Yale University in the ECAC.

Ice Dogs head coach Trevor Stewart said Reid made the commitment two weeks ago. “It was a different sort of year for Nate,’’ Stewart said. “He was definitely going to be our guy heading into the season. He started, he did a really good job and he continued to get better.”

Reid sustained an injury in December. “It allowed opportunities for other people (goaltenders) and he understood that, and he was a good teammate,’’ Stewart recalled. “We couldn’t be more proud of him. He will be going to college and playing hockey for a prestigious school like Yale. They (Yale coaches) like his (Reid’s) size and athleticism, and his potential as a goalie’’ Stewart said. “He’s only going to get better as time goes along.”

Reid, 19, played in 32 games for the Ice Dogs during the 2018-19 season, compiling a 17-12-3 record with a .907 save percentage, 2.37 goals against average and five shutouts.

On February 19th, the 6’2/190 lbs. native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin was named the Midwest Division’s #1 star of the week, as he posted back-to-back shutouts in weekend games.

Reid previously played in the NAPHL during the 2015-16 season for the Madison Capitols 16U team, where he posted a 6-6-0 record in 13 games played with a 3.15 goals against average and .875 save percentage.

Reid was selected by Sioux City in the 16th round and 241st overall in Phase II of the 2019 USHL Draft in May and is currently with the Musketeers to start the 2019-20 season.
