NAHL Weekend Preview

November 1, 2019
The first two months of the 2019-20 NAHL season are now in the books as the calendar turns to November with the season a quarter of the way over.

This weekend features another full slate of games with all 26 teams in action on Friday and Saturday.

It was another incredible week for the NAHL in terms of NCAA commitments as six more current players and even a few alumni made NCAA Division 1 commitments this past week, bringin the 2019-20 season total to 111.

In the Central Division this weekend, the marquee match-up sees the continuation of the Subway Cup as the battle of North Dakota resumes with Minot and Bismarck set to face-off in a home-and-home series with just one point separating the two teams in the standings. The Aberdeen Wings haven’t lost in regulation in their last eight and look to keep that streak alive with an out-of-division series against the red-hot Chippewa Steel. The Minnesota Wilderness and St. Cloud Blizzard will do battle in a home-and-home series. The Austin Bruins will also play outside of the division as they face the Minnesota Magicians in a home-and-home series.

In the East Division, the WBS Knights will try and slow down the New Jersey Titans, who have won eight straight games, which included a 7-3 win over the Knights on Wednesday. The teams face one another twice more this weekend in a home-and-home set. The Maine Nordiques will look to keep their winning ways going with a series on the road in Jamestown against the Rebels. The Maryland Black Bears look to get back into playoff position as they host the Johnstown Tomahawks for a pair of games. Finally, the Northeast Generals will step outside of the division as they host the Kenai River Brown Bears from the Midwest in a two-game set.

In the Midwest, all eyes are on the Chippewa Steel as they try and extend their eight-game winning streak against the Aberdeen Wings. The Minnesota Magicians will face Austin in a home-and-home series. Also, outside of the division, the Kenai River Brown Bears will try and snap their small two-game skid with a series against the Northeast Generals from the East. The Fairbanks Ice Dogs look to try and keep the pressure on Chippewa, as they stay in the South Division with a series in New Mexico against the Ice Wolves. The only series within the division has the Janesville Jets on the road to face the Springfield Jr. Blues, with the two clubs separated by just two points in the standings.

In the South Division, the hottest team in the division, the Shreveport Mudbugs, put their five-game winning streak on the line with a series in Odessa. Streaks collide in Topeka as the 1st place Pilots, are 3-0-1 in their last four games, host the 2nd place Lone Star Brahmas, who have won three straight games. Corpus Christi takes to the road to face the Amarillo Bulls, with the Bulls trailing the IceRays by four points for the fourth and final playoff spot. New Mexico will continue their homestand with a series outside of the division against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
